Hi
have looeked in to the issues re sls etc, and although ammonium lauryl sulphate is still from the same family , apparently it is the weakest and therefore milder. Not saving its ok but better than sls, at this rate i wont find anything i like thats ok to use?.
This all started out as I was just trying to avoid phthalates, which after some research i might be able to do that at least.
(well at least in skin care, struggling on the cleaning front?)Grocery Challenge Feb 14 £500 / Spent £572.10!
March 14 £500 / spent £488.45 :j0 -

No, ammonium laureth sulphate (ALES) is weaker than ammonium lauryl sulphate (ALS).
To which is milder - it depends which countries scientists you ask. Most information on the internet is americentric which claims SLES is the weakest. A lot of euro research says the same thing, along with most australasian info. Northern Europe seems to be where most of the ALES being milder info comes from.ॐ Signature Removed by Someones Mum. ॐ0 -
I bought some faith in nature seaweed conditioner yesterday from As Nature Intended and there's no anything lauryl/laureth sulphate in it?
Ingredients list:
Aqua (Water from the Lake District), Cetearyl alcohol (Coconut based wax), Cetrimonium chloride (vegetable based conditioning agent), Brassica oleifera, Citrus limonum (Lemon Oil), Citrus aurantifolia (Lime Oil), Ascophyllum Nodosum (organic seaweed extract), Melaleuca alternifolia, Limonene, Linalool, Citral
Also bought a travel sized crystal deodorant, personally i don't believe its gonna work but will be very happy to be proved wrong!
It does bug me that they put the breast cancer pink ribbon symbol on the pack though, can't help feeling they are scare mongering. I know there is some evidence linking deodorants to breast cancer but it is by no means conclusive and I'm sure most breast cancer charities would not authorise this link. Has anyone done any studies to see if the crystal in these deodorants is safe?! he he!
[ought to add - my reason for starting to use these products is the environment & biodegradability in the case of the bathing products and price in the case of the deodorant! - i'm not too worried about the effects of the ingredients of my boots shower gel on me.]
edit - I see that the molecules used in the crystal deos are too large to permeate the skin - fair enough that is good enough for me. but now I'm worried about the environmental impact of the crystals - i assume they aren't a sustainable resource and I wonder about the mining processes used to produce them. oh well i'm sure they still have less of carbon footprint than Sure...0 -

Thats because the sulphates are a detergent and foaming agent - neither of which are needed in a conditioner. They are used in shampoo and shower gel.ॐ Signature Removed by Someones Mum. ॐ0 -
Morg - the crystal deodorants do work really well - at least on non-hairy armpits0

ah thanks hairy knodule - i shall bear that in mind when i come to replace my shampoo.
I can report at the end of a busy day the deodorant has worked very well, I'm impressed!0 -
sadly the crystal deoderant never worked well for me, and i am not a 'sweaty' person.
i really wanted it to work but i just ended up feeling wet and horrible.0 -

As far as I recall, the crystal deodorants don't stop you sweating, they just stop you getting stinky
Most commerical deodorants you buy are anti-perspirant deodorants. The anti-perspirant bit means they stop you sweating in the first place and the deodorant bit makes you smell nice. The crystal deodorants work by stopping the bacteria that make sweat go stinky.0 -

I have to admit I was sceptical so much so that I persevered with every new product on the market for quite some years. I then hit very lean times and remembered her advice, having to cut back on spending I thought well I'll give it a go at least it will cost nowt. I have never looked back - save your money and your skin.
i've only been using water for years because i have eczema (and a bit lazy) my boyfriend who's a 5 year med student told me i was dirty, and he was surprised i hadnt had a yeast infection. and said that washing with only water dries the skin out. i now use shower gel every few days.0
