Theives!!!!

Mr divadees motorbike was stolen from outside our house on Monday night and I am furious and very upset and scared!

I also feel stupid that i did not hear, see anything and that the *ankers get away with it. Called the police and insurance etc... and have to wait 2 weeks for any claim to be settled incase they find it (some hope). Also when i called the police (not 999) switchboard and asked for my local station they put me through and it was just ringing for about 5 mins then the operator came on and said theres no answer can i call back!

At this point i lost it ranting about why do i bother paying the police part of the council tax when the only time i have needed them they cant be arsed to answer!! she put me through after this and they answered!! asked a million questions including if we smoke!! (not sure of the relevence of that!!) Then tried to call the insurance company whos claims dept was closed, but sales where open where again i lost it and said your quick enough to want the business and take peoples money but aint so quick and customer friendly to pay out. Informed the poor girl (who i feel sorry for now) that god help anyone whos property is stolen outside 9-5 and that aint theives inconsiderate to work outside these hours!!

last night i got hardly any sleep scared that they were gonna come back for the car or something else (i know this was unlikely). It is not fair that hard honest people who work hard to get things have it taken away by a minority of scum!!

This has nothing to do with money saving i know but i am so upset knew noone would mind me ranting here!! :'(

    Hi Divadee :)

You have my sympathy, I know exactly how you feel. Our shed was broken into a while back and I also had trouble sleeping. Especially when hubby went on nights for a while. I felt really uncomfortable knowing that as we slept, someone was in our garden. It takes a while, but you will feel better. :) Try not to take it personally, these low lives strike at random. Maybe a good idea to look at your security. If you can't do any more, give up worrying, there is nothing else you can do.

I could rant all day about the police. Yes I know they are overstretched and understaffed, but when something happens to you personally, it is very hard to accept.

My son and 3 of his friends were beaten up quite recently by a big gang of older lads, no motive, just for the hell of it. When we got to casualty we were horrified to find lots of other youngsters had all been attacked by the same gang, some were very badly injured. It made me cry to look at them, it will be etched in my mind for ever. Despite my phone calls and a visit to a police station, they had no-one to deal with the complaint. It took them 2 and a half days to send someone. Their 'excuse' was, it was not a priority. Aparently, they are trying out a new system, similiar to the triage used at hospital. Incidents are now dealt with according to this and a large group of youths on the loose, beating people up at will, doesn't appear to be an emergency. It makes my blood boil.

We had our car stolen a few years ago. The local pub had the thieves on their security camera (it was 1.30am). They had pushed it about 50 yards so they didn't wake us up. The police thought that it was stolen for a ramraid because it was an estate car. The funny thing is, my husband had a feeling something like this would happen, so he only ever left enough petrol in it to get to the local garage. The thieves drove it for about a mile, it ran out of petrol, so they left it parked by the side of the road, just waiting for us to pick it up ;D

well 1st xmas got in the way
then we waited for an investigator to come out
then ins said they were waiting for the police report to come back which apparently takes 2 mnths
    they've now had that

but cos we couldn't do without the 2nd car we took the stolen one from the holding garage had repairs done at our expence and sold it privately
so now I've had to send all receipts off to ins for them to check and agree with

as we had a private sale we didnt want to lose it

It's in this day & age when I can't emphasis enough the need for security equipment!! It never sensible to think "it will never happen to me".

Whilst we haven't suffered any significant losses due to theft we have had incidents of violence. We have since installed CCTV and ADT Alarm systems. I appreciate that ADT is costly at £25.00 / month but the feeling of safety and the knowledge that help is at hand is priceless. The CCTV is the cherry on the cake and had lead to 3 convictions, needless to say we now have no problems.. !!

If you don't receive the cheque as quickly as you'd like Divadee send the insurance company an email with a link to this thread letting them know that quite a few thousand people are reading it and that they would be very interested to know which company it is. That might do the trick. Its worked for me in the past ;)

Just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about all the crappy things that have happened to folks. :(

The only consolation is it seems the good guys, like people on MSE, are in the majority. :)

I had money taken from my bank by AOL of which they still hav'nt returned. I have treatened court action today and received a phone call from a representitive who I told the story to and once again I was asked to call a non existant number. I have emailed them tonight giving them 7 days notice to return the funds and I am charging them £15.00 per day until they do.
