I cant believe how many people theses things happen to.

I am so sorry for all of you, and thank you for all your nice comments.

As for you glad i think you should be kicking off with them (i need anger management im sure!!) that is an unacceptable time scale. I will ranting in 2 weeks if they dont tell me a cheques in the post!!

There is a fund  setup for people who have problems with claims, that is, anyone who hits your car etc........ and they are not insured, off the top of my head I think its called the MIB fund. Although this info may not be of help to you its always worth knowing about as it could save your no claims bonus.
Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

another twist to the stolen car saga, if it is found and the police call out a local garage, under the police contract scheme you could end up paying the garage to collect your own car, I know you will get it back from the insurance company but what a daft system it is, plus the garage can charge storage if you dont collect it once the police etc have examined it.

My father had his car damaged by vandals just after Christmas. It looks like they broke into the car and for some reason couldn't start it to drive it away and so smashed it up instead.

It was towed by the insurance company and after a few weeks and several reports the insurance company said it was a write off and sent dad a cheque for £0.00 as the car was worth less than his excess charge.

So now he has no car and no money to replace it.

We checked with the age concern legal people and they confirmed that it doesn't matter what the car was worth to the individual it is the 'book' value that counts.

Well the police have recovered the bike!! (yipee i hear you cry!) but after going to identify the bike as the police couldnt you will realise what state it was in!

Yep a complete write off, nothing left except a front tyre and a few mangled bits of plastic. Tried to call the insurance company as was told you must inform us immediately it is recovered and they are closed until tueday due to bank holiday! I am not talking about some small insurance company a major dog loving company involved here (you will get the hint!!). So if the police charge storage they might not pay the money out as it was not authorised first. I am sure i would not have to pay it as how is it my fault that i cant inform them!!

I hope your Dad did not accept the cheque as the first offer they made. Always tell them you want what you think you will need to pay to replace, they will give a counter offer much lower. You then come down a bit and they usually go up some more. If you can get the car repaired cheaply enough settle for a sum inbetween and the car as it stands. We got them to go from £150.00 to £350 and the car which we had repaired. Their repairers work on at least £50.00 per hour wheras most locals are much less.

the police i image have it stored with a local garage? they would have performed soco on it to try and trace the thieves by fingerprints, the garage cant do anything until the police issue a release note, the police may decide to keep it stored who knows?Im sure that you will be ok with the insurance company if its fully comp insurance.

I had money taken from my bank by AOL of which they still hav'nt returned. I have treatened court action today and received a phone call from a representitive who I told the story to and once again I was asked to call a non existant number. I have emailed them tonight giving them 7 days notice to return the funds and I am charging them £15.00 per day until they do.
