Maybe if she had been a cancer patient she wouldnt have come back though......would you?
...she did come back though and explained her position and then (if we're pointing fingers) you and Mrs E took the thread off on a frolic of your own...and before you attack me you'll note that I was the person in the first couple of pages who suggested that potentially Dora had a medical condition and that might be the reason for the wig.
Poet, I seem to remember you piled into one of these arguments a while ago having never visited the OS forum before...Just let it go and let the thread carry on....plenty of threads for punch ups on other parts of this board...Piglet

The reason I disliked the tone of the posts was that I have a friend who has patchy hair re growth through cancer, and she wears a wig because otherwise the expense of having an old style "set" three times a week, to try to achieve a semblance of thickness or body to her hair is too expensive. So that was what struck me in the posts, that she could be someone like my friend and to be treated so shabbily as a new poster was not on.I have a very strong feeling that if she had been a cancer patient she wouldn't have been using her wig wearing as an illustration of how she was trying to save money.
Really, I will tell my friend she is imagining the cost then;)0 -

I piled in as you put it because I had stopped reading the thread when the outbreak of nastiness began for the reasons given above.
I will post where, when and as I see fit, whether it be OS or DT. Maybe if you could just acknowledge that the OP was not kindly received instead of trying to fudge the issue the thread would carry on?0 -
WoW...What a load of.... Is this how we make our newbies welcome?
Welcome Dora, Have a good look around the boards, there really are a great deal of helpful members, and very useful advice to be found.
I personally think the wig was a great idea for money saving!!
But think the dreads idea was even better ~ although dreads may not be your " thing " personally.Everyday im shufflin' Proud Padder ~ All Hail The Power of Pad0 -

You misunderstand me. I wasn't commenting on the cost or otherwise of wig v regular visits to the hairdresser. I was commenting on the fact that a newbie poster would be unlikely to post this difficult experience on a public forum as an example or suggestion of how to save money. I'm very sorry your friend is in such a difficult place in life. Is there perhaps a Maggie's Centre near the hospital where she's recieving treatment? I know that when my late SIL was being treated for cancer there were many services provided free of charge at her Maggie's Centre and one of these was hairdressing.Val.0 -

lol! it would take thousands of years - maybe we would all look the same then, wouldn't that be sad
but honestly no, european hair say hasnt changed to for example aborigine (spelling mistake sorry) hair for those living in Australia or into afro hair as another example for those who live in south africa
i think that there should be a thread for afro hair on the health and beauty, might start one for all off us with afro hair etc and how we save money
I didn't quite mean it like that, not that afro hair would go straight and pale and fineI meant more like... I'm not sure how to explain it...
I used to live in St. Helens but went to Uni in the Lake District. Only 80 miles apart but seemingly in different water regions. When I came home from Uni and washed my hair, because it was used to the water in the Lakes, it behaved differently. And then it got used to the water in St. Helens but when I went back up to Uni, it changed behaviour again (went more droopy and fine and flyaway).
If I had stayed in one place, it would have got used to it. Like you'd get used to the heat if you lived somewhere hot like Cyprus for 6 months. That sort of adapt.
Maybe you should start a thread, there must be more people on here with afro hair than just those that have posted on this thread.
And regarding this thread (not aimed at you, alisara), get on with it and stop fighting is what I say.0 -
perhaps dora if she is still around should start a new thread so we can help with suggestions or provide helpful links and this one should be closed? married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090
