Are you more frugal than me?

If the poor Op came back to read this thread she's probably legged it with all the fighting going on. I thought it was so we could all swap frugal tips.I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0

I had no clue about black hair being different either. My town is in a very white part of the UK and there's only about a dozen families of any sort of non-white people here. There's two black children in my DD's primary school, out of nearly 700 children. Weird but true. I should imagine you'd have to travel up to the nearest city to find a hairdresser that could cope with black hair around here.
Very educational place, MSE.Val.0 -
The tone of ridicule she employed when discussing the wig issue. And how that first comment seemed to give the go ahead to others to question the OP.
.
Just as a point of order it was me that first raised the query about the wig, given that I made the first reply to the OP. The word I used was "flummoxed" which is more a comment on my lack of knowledge than a criticism of the OP. If she had come straight back to me and said "Because I have afro hair, oh ignorant person!" all of the subsequent hassle could have been avoided. Most thread starters don't post a question and then walk away from the thread for a long period of time, (four days in this case) not if they're genuinely interested in or following the debate anyway.Val.0 -
Ok here is my bit and then I am not going to enter the discussion again (also because I do not wear a wig so the info is irrelevant to me and how frugally I live my life):
Hi Dora sorry if I suspected that your post was not 100% genuine, the reason was that your initial question sounded challenging and competitive. I now know that it was not meant like this but because there are so many argumentative people on forums, sometimes it is easy to misunderstand the tone of somene's post. I added in my original post that if you are a genuine poster to please accept my apologies, which I am renewing now.
To the people bashing Penny, please start behaving as adults and stop the bickering. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

The OP did come back, page 4, a couple of posts down....0 -
OrkneyStar wrote: »I did not criticise the OP....my only concern was the phrase asking if someone was more frugal than someone else, to me it makes it sound competitive! We are being told to think before we reply, can I also suggest people read over their posts before posting, then it might take away some of the confusion!
Have a good day everyone!
Ditto.
Alisara, thanks so much for explaining things a little to those of us who have no knowledge of this.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

The reason I disliked the tone of the posts was that I have a friend who has patchy hair re growth through cancer, and she wears a wig because otherwise the expense of having an old style "set" three times a week, to try to achieve a semblance of thickness or body to her hair is too expensive. So that was what struck me in the posts, that she could be someone like my friend and to be treated so shabbily as a new poster was not on.0

What a lot of fuss. The OP reappeared, accepted there had been confusion and then explained the situation. Then a couple of folks take it on and use it as some sort of excuse to attack others. The OP really must wonder what this place is about.Piglet

Thanks alisara, I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if hair ever evolves. Like, say you had two people with afro hair and one had lived in the cold weather here all their life and one had just got off a plane from a hot country such as Africa. Would the UK one's hair behave better over the course of maybe a month? Does hair adapt?
lol! it would take thousands of years - maybe we would all look the same then, wouldn't that be sad
but honestly no, european hair say hasnt changed to for example aborigine (spelling mistake sorry) hair for those living in Australia or into afro hair as another example for those who live in south africa
i think that there should be a thread for afro hair on the health and beauty, might start one for all off us with afro hair etc and how we save money
back to the post Dora sorry i have started this it was just a guess you had afro hair, you could also be suffering from or recovering from illness, i just cant understand why people didnt think that...0 -
