Watchdog - This Thursday

The thrust of the Watchdog programme was that the PCN's were made to look "official". Naturally the parking companies and especially the BPA denied this.
Rubbish...!
Just look at this "Ticket" from "Flashpark" which lists "violations" including "Parking on a yellow line, or Red Route".
If that isn't attempted intimidation...........
And, yes, when I saw the item trailed I emailed the ticket to Watchdog.

I think we should start compiling a list of all these violations and deceptions by the various PPC's .This could include the "it is an offence for unauthorised person to remove this notice" nonsense, the misleading names of the various PPCs and debt collection companies, and clear breaches of the BPA code, such as demanding money upfront before they will consider an "appeal" and the use of the words such as "fines" and "offenders".
Once done, this very fat dossier should be sent to the BPA asking what they are going to do about it.What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -

I can answer that in one word "Nothing"I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

Compiling a dossier is a good idea, but I have to agree with P the P. The BPA will do nothing. After all they are the PPC's own club. (Sorry, trade association).
A better way of trying for reform might be via the DVLA who aid and abet these charmers......(?)... and are obligated to consider complaints.0 -
The dossier would be a good idea if sent to the OfT maybe?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Got to agree here, OFT might do something, BPA won't. As long as it does not change the governments idea that ppc's are regulated sufficiently, we don't want them to have any more regulation, we may not be allowed to ignore the tickets anymore.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

The trouble with sending it to the OFT is that this organization is going to be emasculated under the government's plan to get rid of a lot of quangos. It will retain it's function of overseeing the operation of big business and competition/monopoly issues, but its consumer watchdog role is disappearing. This is also true of Consumer Focus which is also being scrapped. The government says that these roles will be taken over by the various CABs around the country. Not good news at all. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00vddwx/Watchdog_14_10_2010/Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Taffy, Thanks very much.
