Haven't been in here for a wee while so I thought I;d say hello:hello:.
I had a good few days at the end of last week and really felt I'd turned a corner - more energy, less cotton wool brain, more 'me'. But not quite so good this week although still ok. Isn't it difficult how things come and go? but then again it's difficult when they stay the same!
:hello: big encouraging wave to the 2 college tutors in here - that's what i did up until just over a year ago and boy oh boy is the language ripe these days!!
Re the doubling up of vits - it's good to check it out as my DD was over yesterday and she read the labels on my vits (student nurse - good at paying attention to these things) and saw that my cod liver oil also has vit A + some others so I have stopped taking the multi vit now as she says it's not healthy to take more vitA than recommended. Was surprised to see that cod liver oil also has vitE which I think is also in my evening primrose oil. Anyway, worth checking.
My hip (oooh my age, blimmin' 84, no, 50 actually) is right sore just now. Sore in bed too so I am seriously thinking of getting a dual controlled electric blanket (DH doesn't want) as the thought of heat going to it sounds bliss. Don't take glucosamine but i will buy some as it has worked wonders in my dog over the last 3 years - the vet said it was necessary to get the mix of glucosamine and ??is it chondritin? Something like thAT. It took 3 months to start working but then she could leap in and out of the boot of the car and went in a right huff if you tried to put her in the footwell of the passenger seat. So...if it works on dogs, I'm sure it must work on folks even though the latest results seemed to say it doesn't work. *just my thoughts*
Anyone eat oily fish every week? I keep meaning to and then keep forgetting. Have reined in the purse strings here on food spends and we seem to be eating Sunday's chicken all week (slight exaggeration but it is allowed as I am menopausal). Neeeeeeeeeeed fish. Actually craving it right now so my body must be telling me something.
I was flat sitting at DD's this morning while a painter was there and I had a look through her Fragrant Pharmacy book. It just had a short section on menopause but I made a few notes of the oils that are good. Dam* I can't find it. That is actually quite funny - absent minded or what ?
Ok, will email her just now and write a note on here when I find out
Have a good evening peeps and keep warm. My hands were freezing when i was out with the dogs half an hour ago - off to find my gloves.

Hi girlies!!
wmf Can you freeze some of the cooked chicken?.
I eat oily fish, quite a lot actually, find it a very convenient store-cupboard option when "cooking" for one!
What I keep in store is:
Small tins of mackrel from Lidl 54p I think. I mash and mix with a dollop of cream cheese, splash of lemon juice and black pepper to make a topping for my Ryvita or jacket potato or dip for crudites. Should be enough for 2 servings but sometimes (most times) I'm greedy and pile it on and eat the lot in one go! Can also use for HM fishcakes.
Also small tins of pilchards in tomato sauce about 45p. I drain off some of the sauce, mash add black pepper, warm in the microwwave, pile on buttered toast and pop back under the grill. I like this with a tomato and red onion salad.
Vacuum packs of smoked mackrel with peppercorns. I usually eat one and freeze one. I like it broken up over a salad made with some citrus segments (grapefruit or oranges) or mashed with something as a dip again.
Sainsbury's Basics Smoked salmon. It's 84p for a vacuum pack, really good value for money, a little goes a long way. It's only bitty scraps, but really versatile. Good if you eat pasta, or roll it up like a wrap in a lettuce leaf with cream cheese and lemon juice for a low-carb snack. Always have a couple of packs in the freezer.
They're the MS options, but I also buy whole mackerel or sardines from Sainsbury's, they are cheapish fish and bake in foil when I can be bothered to deal with the bones!!
Am feeling very mellow just now actually. Have just had a hot stone massage. Booked it at a discount when my salon had a launch day at their new premises. Always unsure how good beauty salon massages are going to be but this one hit the right spots and the hot stones were lovely. Very theraputic, despite having to tick the yes box on the questionnaire in answer "Are you menopausal?" Have come home , poured myself a jug of water with orange slices in and a little glass of red wine, lit a few scented candles and put Magic radio on the tele!
Have been feeling a bit poo about myself today and now I can say my mood has lifted pretty massively :T.0 -
Wow Bronnie - that hot stone massage sounds wonderful. I have fancied one for ages and this has spurred me on! So glad that you are feeling the benefits of it.
Thanks for the suggestions re fish. i thought aaahhh at the thought of both smoked mackerel and smoked salmon as I used to eat both fairly regularly. I have a tin of mackerel in the fridge so will have it tomorrow for lunch. I think one of the supermarkets has an offer on salmon fillets so will have a quick look online.
Yes, the last of the chicken will be frozen. I've sliced it through the gravy so it will make an easy tea sometime.
have cleansed face and massaged it with my free Olay serum (do you all know to check out their site? I'm sure they are still sending out these little samples) and on top have massaged in some olive oil. Am nice and slick .
DD hasn't emailed yet with my wonder oils.
Have a good restful evening all, followed by good snooze in the land of nod.

Well I must be a bit thick, because I didn't realise you actually get massaged withthe hot stones! I've only ever seen photos of people lying there with the stones balanced down their bodies, radiating heat I assumed. But in this cold weather it was gorgeous to have that heat applied directly as she massaged, especially to the shoulder blades. She also placed 2 hot stones in my hands. Honestly when I walked out of the treatment room , I looked and felt punch-drunk! It was about 20 mins and a couple of glasses of water before I felt ready to drive home!!0 -
Wow...Bronnie...that massage sounds fab...I've had a couple of 'normal' massages at Champneys that I have won...and they were good, although they left you feeling slightly light headed (so whats new)?
I've often thought about the hot stone ones...but I always thought they would be very expensive. Must look into this...
Hope everyone has a restful and peaceful night......'til tommorow.......:).0 -
bronniie thanks for the fish suggestions, i know i should eat more fish but i just dont like it no matter how many times i try and persuade myself i should
the hot stones sound blissful, tho the thought of any massage does right now as my neck and shoulders are so bad ugh
wmf i have a lot of oils i should get them out and see what i can come up with, never thought of them for meno woes (duuh the memory again lol)
i tried glucosomaine once but unfortunately it reacted badly with my hiatus hernia - gawd i sound like one of those women moaning about her ills over the garden fenceWhen you know better you do better0 -
Morning Shykins & All,
I 'force' myself to eat some tinned mackeral each week. Been vegetarian most of my life but a couple of yrs ago felt I should eat some chicken & fish. It certainly improved my general stamina, but I struggle with the taste of fish. Smells like cat food!
Choille - vitamin overdose, yes thanks for the prompt. I will get the magnifying glass out & check I'm not over doing them. I live in a mobile home and like you can be kept awake by gales & rain thundering down on the roof. I often resort to ear plugs to help me sleep. Foam ones are ok, but wax ones are the best - all bought in Boots (but a long time ago).
Visited Mum in N Home y'day. She has early dementia & I now have to keep her stocked with her huge supplies of toiletries, make-up, personal care stuff, coffee etc. I have become increasingly suspicious that things have been going missing from her room, but not wanting to make any false allegations have kept quiet. I now have no doubt that someone is helping themselves to some of her supplies and today will talk to the matron. Mum doesn't want me to, but I must, as I feel v angry & who knows who else is being targetted. It's a lovely home and the staff are wonderful, but.....
Lovely massage - oooh. If I had loads of money I would have very frequent massages, preferably done by a gorgeous, hunky, male..:j.. oh stop it, calm down! Now I'm flushing.
I've been taking glucosamine (not chondrotin) for yrs. Think it helps with joints, not certain. It's fairly cheap, so will continue.
MS tip for the day. :money: I cleanse my face with veg oil each night. Bottle lasts for ever & it keeps skin soft."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
Oh what a fab tip joyfull! I think that would be so good for my face. I have 3 bottles of the new(ish) superdug cleanser - the mild one with a blue top - bought them when even cheaper than they are. Still, I like the idea of cleansing with veg oil! It would take mascara off too.
How awful about your mum's stuff. You are right to raise it because that is her home and all her belongings should be safe. My dad was in a nursing home and I would also have been furious if anyone had helped themslves to his stuff. Could you label things with a permanent marker in the meantime/ as well? Maybe tell the matron that your mum is concerned that you are mentioning it so she can look out for any upset?
Well, I have some Jasmine oil slickered over me. I forgot (no!!) that I had a bottle from Neals Yard. It's very strong smelling so I might dilute it with olive oil.
Still haven't heard from DD about the meno oils. EDIT - she has sent me the details - don't know about the rights of copying on here from a book so maybe people could send me a pm if they want details? Does that work??
Anyway, the main ones for meno, and can be used singly or as a blend, are
Clarysage, Geranium, Jasmine, Bois de Rose, Nutmeg, Sage, Rose, Maroc, Bergamot, Coriander, Red thyme.
Hope you had a good sleep folks.
Ok, am off to tackle the day!
