Presumably you don't buy your frozen foods from Iceland.com either? ;)
Or shop at Somerfield, Julian Graves, MK One, Booker and various other stores that Baugur have an interest in :)

Iceland has announced it is to resume the commercial hunting of whales as early as next week.

Icelandic ships will take nine fin whales, an endangered species, and 30 minke whales each year.

I'm going to ignore Icesave in the hope of sending a message to Iceland regarding my view of their resumption of whaling.

If we all do it their 9 fin and 30 minke whales will be very expensive. Yes I'm a moneysaver, but not at that cost!

I agree with Ebenezer and Speculator. I will be steering clear of this and other Icelandic companies. The Iceland supermarket chain is actually owned by the Icelandic Baugur Group, as is Hamleys Toy Store, plus Mappin & Webb and the other stores previously listed.

I have just opened an ICESAVE account. Filled in the online application on Monday 16th and received the Welcome letter and User ID today (18th). Have not been asked for any further information. Gave my Driver No, Passport Number and I have lived at my present address for 30 years.

I applied online yesterday and gave my driver no.
Still got to send proof of identity and proof of address and I've lived here for 23 years. Wonder why some do and some dont?

Well I needed to send in two forms of ID, and I sent the cheque in the same envelope. My cheque was cashed today (well the money has moved from my current account today) and I'm still waiting for an ID. (I've had my post for today.)
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries

It's strange isn't it. I gave neither my driving licence number nor my passport number, yet they still didn't ask me for any ID at all.

I don't scrutinise my other savings/investments to the same level, and generally wouldn't boycott things unless there's a clear direct link and what any government decides has very little to do with other commercial organisations in that country. One could perhaps say that money given to Lansbank/Icesave reduces the Icelanders dependency on traditional industries, whilst not investing would force them to increase it. Perhaps.
  • Applied last Friday for an Icesave account, received my User ID through on the Monday and my deposit was in by the Wednesday.

    Great service so far.

    I am experiencing problems, unfortunately:

    1. Welcome pack took one week to arrive
    2. When logged on, my Icesave account was not set up but my linked current account is. As a result, I was unable to transfer funds into the Icesave account online.

However, on the 2 occasions that I have telephoned their customer service desk, they have been superb. Steps are now being taken to log (2) as a fault and I was told that they will turn the fault call around withn 48 hrs. Also, I can still send funds through from my linked account by quoting the personal reference that I was allocated when I first applied online.

Feeling positive and hope this gets sorted by early part of next week.
