I read in their t&c that if you are a non-tax payer you may be able to reclaim tax from Inland Revenue, but they reserve the right to apply net interest.

Does this mean that even if I send them an R85 they are still going to deduct tax from my interest?

'We cannot accept other forms of deposit after your initial deposit' i.e. other than 'pulling' via the direct debit arrangement you will have set up. That would also seem to preclude cheques.

Something else that I have only just noticed is that 'the minimum additional deposit is £100.'

    HTH.

If you can only have one initial deposit, what's the £100 additional deposit?
Do you mean the minimum monthly DD is £100?

  • Iceland has announced it is to resume the commercial hunting of whales as early as next week.

Icelandic ships will take nine fin whales, an endangered species, and 30 minke whales each year.

I'm going to ignore Icesave in the hope of sending a message to Iceland regarding my view of their resumption of whaling.

If we all do it their 9 fin and 30 minke whales will be very expensive. Yes I'm a moneysaver, but not at that cost!

Its not a regular saver but deposits must be greater than £100.

OK fine your decision, but the banks are not responsible,I respect your decision and fully understand your feelings ,because the Whale is an intelligent sophisticated mammal, and should not be a food source ,but the government is responsible not the banks. This an oportunity to regenerate competition and I support it.

And how would the bank know, (or care), unless you told them?

I do hope that you look at every bank, investment and purchase you make so thoroughly and check their ethical standings..... Not taking a very good interest rate from a company who has nothing whatsoever to do with whaling seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face to me.... I'm not in support of their resumption of whaling either. But there's more direct action to be taken than refusing to open a bank account from a company that's linked in no way whatsoever!
