Having said all that,i cant help but think the H A treated him as a naughty child. It seems that 14 odd years of never missing the rent counts for nothing, hay ho.
Cheers everyone

I wouldn't take it personally, it's probably standard practice at the HA,

tenant in rent arrears, answer = no.

It's amazing how many requests for Sky, permission to install driveways, conservatories, porches, new kitchens etc etc, we get from tenants in arrears. What's even more amazing is how quickly people come up with money to clear, if they really want something!

Am I missing the importance of the whole 'sky dish' thing?

If I'd missed 3 months rent I wouldn't be thinking about Sky, I'd be thinking about selling the TV to keep a roof over my head?

Admittedly I'm not a huge watcher but how is it even on the list of priorities? "Saving money" is !!!!!!!!, you could easily save more just getting internet (or not having internet, hardly essential, go to the library or heaven forbid, use a friend or family?).
Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”

So you presumably work for an agent then??

Fact is agents are notoriously difficult to work with! And I've only been renting from one for the last 3 weeks or so! And I had to ask for permission to install a Sky Dish! I was told that there was an existing one on the chimney (the chimney!!) and there was existing cabling in the living room so the Sky engineer would only have to connect that to my Sky box!

Anyway the Sky engineer came out and connected the cabling and it just didn't work! And he said he couldn't go up on the roof to check it as they aren't insured to do so. So bearing in mind I had permission for a Sky engineer to come out to install Sky albeit via the existing dish and cabling (he couldn't use the existing cabling/dish as mentioned) so I just had him put a new dish on the back of the property. And the agent simply said to let them know the outcome of the engineers visit. So I will do just that and tell them because the Sky dish/cabling was unusable I had to have a new dish installed.

Simples :D

P.S) For the record if I was 3 months behind with the rent I wouldn't dream of having Sky installed! OP sort that out first!!

Hi everyone,Just a quick question. My friend is behind with the rent, approx one month.£380.00.The local housing association have told him he cannot have a sky dish lnstalled untill the rent is brought upto date! The really silly thing is that he was three months behind and since finding work in june he,s nearly cought up!
It seems to me they have no right to do this. But i dont know to much about the law regarding rented property.
The other thing is that the sky deal saves him another 15.00 per month.
Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Many social landlords use things like this to encourage anyone with rent arrears to pay up swiftly.

It's their property - they can withold permission as they choose, although very few object to SKY dishes generally.

Best bet is to pay the arrears asap, and then reapply.

Yes but the Sky package often includes TV, Internet and Free calls in one, hence the £15 "saving".

Or just get a basic broadband package from someone like plusnet for about £5 a month for an even bigger "saving".
