I'd love to know How you can run up three months rent arrears cos if you were unemployed you'd be entitled to housing benefit which would have taken care of that...Ergo, the arrears existed before the unemployment.

Im not going to go into to much detail, after all its just a sky dish.Deans hours were reduced, almost on a weekly basis,at all times he kept the H A in the picture, they were pretty understanding. Then no job at all.Still had a car,ex wife and a little un,etc etc.The lad did his best, not perfect but his best.
By the way,i do feel that years of good payment should count in your favour.
Why should an employee who is never late for work, and who,s bus is late one day be treated the same as the serial late offender.Going off the point i know, but im old fashioned i suppose, previous good character should count for something.
Anyway its all going way over the top for a sky dish on rented property thread.
Having said that, some of you guys should really think twice about posting on the debt free wanna bee threads.0 -
In response to :
andThey were not pertinent and none bothered to ask for the full circumstances. Appears to me just wanting to find a way to criticise which seems to be a trait on these boards. I only looked at this thread because I rented for 6 months a while back and put a dish up with landlords consent, so was intrigued, but now amazed at the lack of empathy and understanding that most people show, seemingly always wanting to find fault first.
Oh and if I did have an opinion on the original post it would be
1: well done for finding a another job
2: well done for nearly catching up on your rent
3: well done for trying to save money on your TV
That is hardly bitter or twisted and that is the last post from me.......................leslie1961 wrote: »Anyway its all going way over the top for a sky dish on rented property thread.
Very few people are wholly exempt from the downturn in the economy and people's comments weren't about "finding fault".
Post on a public forum and you will get a wide cross-section of replies. Sometimes we all need a kick up the harris and hearing it from another viewpoint can be of help. If you want a huggy, fluffy "there there" support group you are probably best avoiding forums.
Buzzama's ever so slightly patronising "ooh, well done you" comments wouldn't be of much help to Dean if the HA decided to evict.
If you have mortgage or rent arrears your best move is to clear them asap and, yes, that sometimes means sacrificing other things.
Roof over head = paramount importance.Being unemployed is grim - being classed as "intentionally homeless" *and* unemployed is grimmer still.0 -
If you think these comments are bad I'd turn the internet off right now. It's wild out there..."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
I am shocked by 2 things here (I am searching for advice on the thread title); not one of the posts actually concentrates on the main subject & some of the posts are down right rude & judgemental. Not one person even considered if the guy may use the services to help his situation (working from home being one example). Sorry to say that as a long time member (admittedly not a regular), I am both shocked & disappointed.Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0

How would he use some extra T.V. channels to work from home and help his fiancial situation?
Internet can be accessed for free at libraries or the job centre?
Surely not suscribing to a television package would help his situation more?0 -
If he's nearly caught up then he just needs to wait till he has done, then have Sky installed. And Sky are always doing deals of one sort or another so I don't think he should worry about missing out. In fact very often a much better deal comes along later (eg HD box as standard now, compared to 1 year or 2 ago etc.) Rent has to be the priority.leslie1961 wrote: »The really silly thing is that he was three months behind and since finding work in june he,s nearly cought up!.....
.....
The other thing is that the sky deal saves him another 15.00 per month.0 -

Cheers everyone
Maybe it is wrong of them to deny him the right to a sky dish if they do not take action against those already with them...
But being a naughty child is how I'd describe someone cheeky enough to ring up and ask if they can get sky when they owe me money.0 -
That is the narrow mindedness that is surprising & shocking. Not everyone wants to use the internet during office hours - how many small businesses answer emails at the weekend, etc. Perhaps the guy is disabled & can't get to a job centre or library. Perhaps the library/job centre is a long &/or costly journey? How would he use some extra T.V. channels to work from home and help his fiancial situation?

Surely all such options could be given as suggestions (i.e. polite & helpful), rather than as a barrage of negative/rude criticisms?Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0 -
well if the internet was critical to a private business (which makes perfect sense), it's kind of up to the OP to say that. based on the facts given, the responses were appropriate. if there are circumstances that make things different, then fine, but i think there can be too much of a culture of excuses (particularly when they're all plucked from the sky!)That is the narrow mindedness that is surprising & shocking. (and fwiw, i don't care if someone 'wants' to use the internet at certain times. i'd sooner not pay rent or work and spend lots of money and go on lots of holidays. reality means that i can't):happyhear0
