I buy mine in Julian Graves or Holland & Barrett. I think it's about £1.50 a jar.

By the way if you want something else to use malt extract for, if you ever decide to make dough in your bread machine and turn it into bagels, a spoonful of malt extract in the poaching water for the bagels gives them a lovely flavour :)
no Julian Graves here, but our health food store has it

I like the tip about the bagels, thanks :)

Hi there! Tried the jam at the weekend..............fail! It started out well. Had some on bread before it cooled and it was lovely, then it set as hard as rubber. :( I did the plum jam (its apricot in the recipe book, but it says you can also use plums) Apart from that, it scratched the non stick off the bottom of BM a wee bit . Must have been the sugar. Not a happy bunny:(. Other than that had a good weekend. Hope you all did too:)

Skylark, sorry to hear about your jam(and breadpan)...I must admit,i wont ever use the jam making programme.-in fact I probably wont use many of the programmes other than bread, maybe just maybe,il try a banana loaf type thingy or similar.;)
I was working all weekend and the overnight timer has been a great help....ive just set BM up at night and we have lovely bread in the morning....been using the basic recipe on programme 1 again, and it is fantastic ,the loaf is huge..i made the 1kg loaf and it was too wide for my toaster,I had to cut a bit off each side....but that was one of the reasons i chose this BM,it makes the biggest loaves available....ive also been using Hovis superstrong premium bread flour and it is fantastic....hope the price hasnt gone sky high since i last bought it tho.

that's not good :( apart from the problem with the set, I'd be giving Kenwood customer services a call about the scratching

I've just been doing boring stuff like trying to put my house in order, & assembling a bookcase for my cookery books

Yes, think I might be making jam in a pan from now on!
I made the brioche in the machine, and it is awesome.....really good size. I still love my kenwood, even if the jam is rubbish! I just think to make jam and get setting point right in a pan must be difficult. Thought it would be easy and foolproof in the BM
I may ring Kenwood and complain, just to see what they say. Its so new, I am gutted about the scratches on non stick:huh:
The gingerbread is nice. Tried it last week as a lot of the gals on here were making it. It gave me the notion for it! They all threw a handlful of sultanas in, so I did...........yum!:)

    Hi,

in my Kennie instruction book there is a recipe for ciabatta. If it's not in your book post on here again and I will type up the one I have.
I'd be interested to see that recipe spirit :)

there doesn't seem to be one in my book, unless of course I'm being exceptionally dim today :rotfl:

    Hello, Guru Swan! :)
Yes, will give them a ring later this week. I have guests at home just now, so a million other things to do.
I love organising in the house. Sometimes I try and chase everyone on a Sat so I can get stuck in! Love sorting all my recipes and cook books. That is my fave job! And cleaning food cupboards.....sad, I know!:o

    morning :)

Guru! oh :o really I'm just good a ferreting out information ;)

my cookbooks are in several increasingly untidy piles in my hallway & I'm looking forward to sorting them out in to categories & having them where I can see them all

there's also going to be a cull of the useless ones, off to the charity shop with them!

I'm wavering about a set of foreign cookery books that drive me mad, they're pleasing to look at, well laid out & have interesting recipes, however ...
some recipes have the titles in English but the others have their original names with no explanation of what it is so you have to read the recipe through & take a guess at what the result will be

& I might actually be able to find my sourdough bread book again & have a go at that :)

I keep wanting to try something else out of the kennie book, just so I have tried the whole range! There never seems like enough time though:( I still haven't doen my mexican night as everyone was out/working last week and my guests don't like spicy!
What about googling the recipe name in your foreign book? At least you would have a rough idea of the end result before you try it
