Those days are well and truly over now though.
Really?
As my mother had to sue her employers in the public sector after she damaged her hand picking up dangerously heavy files. Her damages weren't £100k either - just to cover medical treatment to fix the problem.0 -
I'm just hoping I can last here another 8 months as it appears than then I would pass another arbitrary threshold and my statutory redundancy would be increased by 50%.I think....0

Why do they even need 6000 staff, that means about 1 of every 50 people who lives there (including newborns and people over 100) works for the council.0

And 2-3 years' pay would pay off their mortgage and give them £30k in their pocket .... and they could then find some other little minimum wage job locally to fill in their time.... in fact, I bet if they'd read the Wirral story they'd be hoping it'd be a choice for them. The thing is their job is essential, so if they left they'd have to be replaced.... but given the choice...
It depends on your situation/pay/location/age whether or not redundancy's a nice little "get out early" bonus.
AFAIK, PN, the 21-month 'package' will only be offered for a short period to 'higher' grades. That's what previous articles have stated. The vast majority of civil servants, etc, will get 12 months, I believe. I'm happy to be corrected, however.Fokking Fokk!0 -

In Newcastle 32% of the working population are public sector 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

So about 3 people then:)
Theres a difference between being public sector and council though, you can be public sector and perform a useful function for the whole country, if you worked for HMRC or the DVLA for example. But council workers only serve a purpose to their boroughs, surely we don't have over 1 million people employed in local councils (assuming 1:50 ratio nationwide)?0 -
I have worked in organisations where they have offered redundancy to everyone in a management grade - those good at their jobs took it as they knew they could quickly find work elsewhere, those time-serving in cushy little jobs were not interested - it may have saved money but it certainly did not improve the organisations managementmvengemvenge wrote: »AFAIK, PN, the 21-month 'package' will only be offered for a short period to 'higher' grades.
