Hope it's okay for you
We finally got our initial forms from the solicitor - it had been mailed to next door along with the sales info from the agent  but I rung round and put it right so hopefully any more post will arrive where it is supposed to
Have sent it all back and it should arrive on Monday. I am a tiny bit annoyed as they are supposed to be open seven days a week - but when OH phoned to pay them so they could start the searches they wouldn't answer the direct line and the line for the firm said it was only open monday to friday.
We were supposed to be seeing the bank again tomorrow, but I am going to have to cancel as we have to go to a sadly rather unexpected funeral. I know we have a tight exchange deadline, but some things are just way more important so it can just wait.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
My house-to-be needs £4k of rendering work.. which now needs to be negotiated on - great. (what tends to happen with work that needs doing?)
No chance of completing before the bank holiday for me thenProud meowmy of four fuzzy cats0 -
Oh no...poor you, Cheesecat! I think the normal way of doing these things is to split the cost between buyer and seller, so that means them knocking £2k off the price. There may also need to be some renegotiation up the chain, which the EA should handle.0

I had an offer accepted on 7th March, and the survey (valuation and homebuyers) finally came back last week with no significant issues :T. The solicitor is on with the searches, but I've not heard anything from them for a couple of weeks now.
Still waiting for the formal mortgage offer though so I've not been pushing the Solicitors as I'm still not officially proceedable - I've been told the mortgage offer can take 4-5 weeks from start to finish, so another 2 weeks potentially.
It's good to hear some positive news on this thread! Hope you get in for Tuesday, Sonastin!

Finally found a house we like in great condition, great location and fab price.
Well we went to see it on Sat (it's 2nd day on the market). The vendor is moving out as she's having another child. She told us that someone had already offered the asking price but hadn't sold their house so wasn't considering that.
After viewin the house on our own she said her husband had told her the estate agents had come back saying someone has offered full asking price but want them out in 3 weeks which she said was ridiculous.
We called the ea and told them we'd offer the full asking price and explaining we had no timescale restictions for them to move out.
Basically two days on and the ea has told us the vendor wants to talk to her boss to see what to do.
Don't know if the ea is takin me for a fool or we're really up against it.
Even more annoying is that asking price is 250k so offers over that are gonna be a pain.
Now waiting for the ea to call me back with the progress.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!!0 -
Just found out that the vendor is waiting for their survey results to come back. It looks like we won't be getting in before April at this rate!!!0

thanks for the positivity Drama Llama and Paint  I've asked my solicitor to pass on that I want an allowance for £2k of the costs or I cannot continue with the purchase. eep!
I feel sorry for my solicitor cause I actually received all the contracts through to sign today as she knows I wanted it sorted for the bank holiday - we'll see what happens.
Paint who is your mortgage going to be with? Mine seemed to take weeks on end but I went with the Nottingham Building Society who apparently deal with everything on paper whereas others deal electronically (not sure of the ins and outs) Fingers crossed for you!
Its nice to read this thread for support and also to see people finally getting to exchange/completion proving to the rest of us it's possible if we stick with it. Its such a waiting game this house buying malarkeyProud meowmy of four fuzzy cats0 -
Good luck CheeseCat! I'll be a relief to get it out of the way before the Bank Holiday so I hope it goes well for you.
My mortgage is with the Clydesdale Bank - it sounds like it's the same as the Nottingham Building Society in that the entire process is manual (and they also have a backlog). The worst thing is that they do the credit check at the very end of the process, and this is the bit that worries me (a couple of accidental but recent missed credit card paymets, which the underwriter knows about and has said should be ok) so the whole thing could fall apart at the final hurdle. It's gonna be a loooooong wait!
Hope everybody gets positive news today!0 -
All it takes is for one muppet to pay the full, EA inflated asking price (and for a mortgage valuer to agree) to persuade the surrounding vendors to stick to their guns. No amount of contrary economic news will shake their confidence when they hear Mrs Miggins down the road got the full asking price in the past couple of months.
We are renting in a village and looking to buy - there are usually about 2 houses on the market in our price bracket at any one time.
A house came on last week and we went to see it, asked the vendor whether he was prepared to budge in price (we would have offered 10% less) - he said no, as there were 3 seriously interested other families, all cash buyers.
The house was sold the following day, for the full asking price.0
