yes, here they are as far as I know they only sell online ;)

they also sell borax, citric acid (which someone was asking about on a thread recently) essential oils, and loads of other stuff, including soapnuts, might try them when I order next. ;)

Holy Brass Monkeys its cold. Most unamused.

Did however get some winter prep done yesterday --- was given £50 new look voucher for my birthday in July........yes I said July. and went to shop yesterday to look about and enquired how much was on the card. had £29 left so have brought myself a long vest top to wear to bed, a plain t shirt, a pack of 5 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of gloves and a nice chunky warm hoody. All came to £28.95 so was landed and will help keep me warm.

B+M had some hot water bottles reduced from £2.49 to £1 so grabbed two -- one for Ben and one for Holly (I know shes only 3 months but having it at the side of her cot not next to her) will keep her warm too). Failign that mummy will use it! :p -- ok so one is white with pink polka dots and the other pink with hearts on but no one will know and ben been cuddled with it this morning.

Also poundland had two grey beanie hats for £1 and two sets of gloves for £1 so got those for Benji. Least he has spares then if he loses one. Ethol austin had some mini mittens for Holly Dolly too so she has two little sets of gloves now as well for £1.50. she needs them though as its bloody cold. Was shocked at the price of baby tights though!!! She will most definitely be in trousers all winter then - £3.50 for a pair -- yes 1 PAIR!

Ordering Dogs food today too - was given a proper measuring cup by friend yesterday too so looks like it will last me a good few months rather than just till Xmas!

Also good news - work friend of bf rang yesterday and turns out the other guy has been dismissed and is being prosecuted so he should be back at work sometime this week hopefully. Bf feeling guilty now as he was the one who offered up the information to his boss after the incident, but bf had gone and apologised to his co-worker that morning and he still went and told the boss that afternoon so I told him not to worry - the other guy didn't think twice that he had 3 kids to support so it was his own fault.

Trying to look back to find the list of things that VAT is rising on. Anyone help me because I cant find it for love nor money!

Also pay day for me was Thursday so just done a food shop, put gas and electric on my cards and paid part of my tv license bill - £11.75 to pay now still. Got Santander ringing me constantly as I missed this months payment :( but they can have it the end of the month when Im next paid so I'll pay double instead. Owen paid on 24th so hoping that hurry's up now --- did a food shop yesterday and got in some SR / P flour so will get some baking going. Want to be careful with heating usage etc though

Ben has football match today though so will go to that this morning and then come home and will heat proof house as Owen is going out training with his work mate - before babe was born and his wages were ok him and his friend set up their own mini gym in his friends garage so they have all the equipment they need and can train for free. :) then might sit and watch a film with Benji.

Oh managed a little bit more Xmas shopping yesterday. new charity shop in town opened up so had a peak got a Power rangers PC game for 69p, a Beyblades (don't ask) DVD for 49p, and 2 videos in the local RSPCA shop were BOGOF at 49p so got him Dragonheart and The Mummy. Will be looking to see what Disney videos he has though as he loves them but he only has a few so will see if I can pick up some more of those for him. Mummys a big kid so she'll watch them with him!
    Time to find me again

Thanks rosie, fab site! I will definately order from them, but the borax won`t be any use to me sadly :(
I use borax as a dry preservative in my taxidermy work, but it`s the ingredient in the original borax, the one that has been taken out now, that works. I`m finding it almost impossible to get original borax now. :(

we have a couple of threads Soapnuts and Ecoballs and Soapnuts and there's discussion on some of the cleaning-type threads too; not everyone takes to them, but I think they're worth a try.

This website gives some information and also offers a free sample

Ruth of Victorian Farm fame, says in the book that she doesn't use anything in her washing machine, she reckons the water and the agitation do the cleaning although I'm guessing this is not a useful piece of information if your OH is a mechanic :D

    Hello OSer's

I'd like to join in with this thread please, I've been lurking for a while and have picked up some good tips and feel my morale boosted to know other people are in the same boat as me!

A bit about us - We (me, DH and DS aged 2) live in the South Wales Valleys. I'm a part time Civil Servant (riveting stuff!) and DH is doing post graduate research and lecturing part time. We're struggling with money at the minute (like everyone I guess), as DH's funding has run out for the research he's doing. luckily we have savings as we knew that the funding would end and that he would be till about Jan/Feb finishing up the work. So at the minute we're living on my wage and our savings.

Thanks to this thread and others on the site, we're meal plannig, batch cooking and generally making do and mending, however I still worry a lot about our future. We don't have a huge amount of debt but I am mindful of the fact that this could easily change if we're not very, VERY frugal with what we have.

I'd like to keep posting to try and keep track of my spending and old style ways if that's ok x
