Have to tell you all. At the grand age of 57 and three quarters I have just been offered, and accepted, a full time proper job! I'd reconciled myself to the scrap heap because of my age, but I got it because I have the experience.

    Can't believe it. I've been looking for A G E S.

Apparently if I had gone to medical like a tramp, smelling like a pig, wiv me hair all over the place - it would have gone in my favour - but because I went neat/tidy/reasonably well dressed :o[/QUOTE]

Thats awful that your appearance means that you cant get the points you need. How long will it take for your appeal to go thru?

    Congrats Jamanda xx

because of the price hikes we're expecting in the new year I'm making my own OS cleaning solutions from now on; I've got a few spray bottles and will be making up these mixes

    - equal parts Stardrops/white vinegar/water for a general cleaner

    - a stronger solution of vinegar/water + a few drops of tee tree oil as an anti bacterial spray

I'll also be experimenting with tea tree oil mixed with a little water as tto is supposed to be a good insect repellent; I might try adding other oils to the spray mix

I've used some of these ideas before but I lapsed back into buying the chemical mixes. Twice after using Cillit Bang I had a really bad asthma attack (had to do it a second time to make sure that's what caused it!)

I found these ideas on the Save Zillions on cleaning costs thread, worth a look if you haven't seen it yet ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Lovelife what an excellent idea, put tomato plants in a cheap paddling pool!! I put a couple of mine in an old baby bath but it didnt quite work as I stuck it up against a wall.

Congrats Jamanda, nice to hear good news, gives everyone who is job hunting hope for the future.

Pagan girl I understand completely what you are getting at we had a period with no income when I first had to give up work to look after DH sadly they didnt tell us about the food voucher. A few months ago they stopped our benefits 'by mistake' for 3 days and boy did that mess everything up. Apparently because Im married to the person I care for my carers allowance is deducted from our income but at least they pay my stamp.

well done jamanda so happy for you!!

Started my new job as a teaching assistant today, lets just say being thrown in at the deepend in a class full of difficult teenagers doing cooking is enough to drive anyone to a glass of wine....... and I spent all day without a cuppa, I don't know!!!

Am really panicing about the price hikes, bread is going to go through the roof price wise, aldi have still got their plain and sf flour at normal cheapy price. I've been told you can make bread with normal flour, instead of bread flour so will try that me thinks.

Brrrr isn't it freeeeeezing, am laying on the sofa fully clothed, dressing gown on, slipper socks and a blanket!!!

    Start Monday - sec/pa.

(or general do it all/dogsbody type thing) I'm still absolutely stunned. I was convinced I had no chance of permanent employment at my age, especially considering the numbers applying for admin type jobs.

Kitcaboodle Thanks for the tip about baby wipes being good at cleaning stains off carpets. If they remove lipstick, they should pretty much remove anything I would imagine :T :T

...and what they don't shift, flash wipes do. Some little pest spilt diet coke on my good living room carpet and I didn't notice until it was dried. Three flash wipes later - no stain.
  • Well done jamanda. Congrats on the new job. annie 56 I am really intreagued by your gardener, I to have a soft spot for Donty Mon as he is known in our house and dare I say it for Alan T too.
