Hi all, just read your thread thru and reeally enjoyed it, thankyou for tips and pointers to summer naturals for vinegar I have a small cleaning business and use vinegar for mirrors and to remove limescale. I used cillit bang once and I have asthma also, I cleaned a shower in a well ventilated bathroom, I was singing (badly!) whilst cleaning, afterwards I felt dizzy and my throat was dry, later that day I was breathless and my chest hurt. By the next morning I was at the doctors in agony and very wheezy, I had pluresy (sp) by the end of the week :-o
I used natural cleaning stuff now as its better for my chest.
Just watching the weather and its going to be colder next week everywhere, my dd will be pleased she is desperate to wear her new hat & ear muffs she bought in Aug in the sale

Our chimney been repaired when we did bathroom so can use the fire now, have brought in logs and bought a bag of coal ready. I really would like to get coal delivered but not sure where I can store it.

I'd like to join in with this thread please, I've been lurking for a while and have picked up some good tips and feel my morale boosted to know other people are in the same boat as me!
A bit about us - We (me, DH and DS aged 2) live in the South Wales Valleys. I'm a part time Civil Servant (riveting stuff!) and DH is doing post graduate research and lecturing part time. We're struggling with money at the minute (like everyone I guess), as DH's funding has run out for the research he's doing. luckily we have savings as we knew that the funding would end and that he would be till about Jan/Feb finishing up the work. So at the minute we're living on my wage and our savings.
Thanks to this thread and others on the site, we're meal plannig, batch cooking and generally making do and mending, however I still worry a lot about our future. We don't have a huge amount of debt but I am mindful of the fact that this could easily change if we're not very, VERY frugal with what we have.
I'd like to keep posting to try and keep track of my spending and old style ways if that's ok x

don't buy cat litter for the icy paths, apparently it turns into some sort of clay when wet and its very difficult to get rid ofthink some people have mixed salt and sand ?
I have a couple of bags of value salt - I only have a large step and a short path to the pavement so I sprinkle it on the step and it gets trodden back down the path a little. The grass either side of the path survived ok, but salt can kill plants so I'm wary of spreading too much at a time... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Shelley and Nuala Buala I have fibromyalgia as well, so can understand how you both feel. Some people have said at different times, oh but you are looking so well, not understanding at all. They never see you on the very bad days, eh? xx MargaretDo a little kindness every day.;)0

Belated "well done" to Jamanda & Bitter & Twisted on their new jobs. (Amazing how quickly this thread moves on, even if you're away from it for a couple of hours!). Hopefully with the Spending Cuts news about to break, this will give you added confidence about being able to weather the inevitable storms ahead. Delighted for you both - it's lovely and reassuring for others when people on here able able to post good news like this.0

Been AWOL for a bit and found the thread about 900 posts longer
I feel that things --"things" meaning prices/cuts/weather/ all getting scarey and making me nervous. Wish it was wednesday- when they are announcing what they're up to and then we can start fighting back.

charlies' aunt - I think the message must be getting across to small employers now that "ladies of a certain age" are a good and reliable long term employment prospect because they're unlikely to disappear off on maternity leave. I know of the owner of a small business (a woman I might add) who has said she would not employ a younger woman these days because the financial disruption and extra costs caused somebody going off on maternity leave would probably bankrupt her business.0

Just to add that Costco have white vinegar much cheaper, its 5L for £3 something. Also try the soap makers sites for bicarb and citric - try Justasoap or the Soap Kitchen. Summernaturals looks quite dear.0
