  • Went to see my little girl in her nursery nativity (she was an angel) and it was lovely. My in-laws came down too and then we were all treated to lunch at John Lewis.

My father-in-law was in good spirits and quite happy to chat about what he was going through. He starts his chemo next monday and will be in hospital until Christmas Eve. He's been advised to take the first 3 days after the first lot of chemo really easy as they don't know how he'll react and to not have any visitors. This means that we will postpone the English Christmas with them until he feels better.

We'll still have a Polish Christmas was my family on Christmas Eve and then a quite Christmas Day with just the three of us at home. I'm really looking forward to this as usually we're driving around between my grandmother in London and my in-laws in Northampton. Also I'm feeling very tired and have caught this horrible bug that is going round so didn't really want to over-do things.

Spent this evening wrapping the pass-the-parcel for my classes party tomorrow afternoon and all 35 presents for them! It has taken a little time but I have a good system. Also wrapped the parent helpers presents and my teaching assistants.

I now need to find my daughters birthday presents that I have hidden around the house for Saturday and wrap those too.

Then I need to find all the Christmas presents for everyone that I have again hidden and wrap those.

If I don't shake this lurgy I will have to postpone the flu jab I'm suppose to have on Monday. Apparently all pregnant ladies have been advised to have the jab.

Christmas grocery shopping all sorted and being delivered on the 22nd. Bought the 3 bird roast from Aldi for £9.99 for this year as there are just the 3 of us.

    Tree is up and decorated.

Now I need to sort this heap of a mess that is my house in time for Christmas. I just wish that anything slightly strenous wipes me out and I have to take a 20 minute break. Slowly but surely I will get there - a bit like the tortoise from Aesops Fables.

Big hugs to all who need them and I hope this lurgy fizzles out for you all too.

    jediteacher,

As one who struggles every day, I find it best to sort out my priority tasks and do them first. 15 mins doing and 10 resting seems to allow me to get a lot of things done.

For me the priorities are food, kitchen, laundry and bathroom then anything else, in that order. You will have your own of course.

One thing I found very important was to learn to stop when I began to get truly tired, if I don't it just seems to rob energy from the next day if you see what I mean, so it isn't worth pushing myself past my limit.

    Hope you're feeling better soon.
  • Thanks for welcoming me to the thread. I'm definitely stopping getting the pyjama pants-they cost a flipping fortune-£5 for 9 almost the same as it cost for 54 nappies for my DD! Pull up pants it is from now on in size 6. plus dd who is nearly two is really interested in the potty at the moment and keeps asking to use it so she might be earlier to potty train than my ds who showed no interest whatsoever until I took the week off and perservered with it when he was 2 years 10 months! i'm on nights again and have a huge pile of ironing to tackle tonight when the work trails off a bit. need to sit down and plan my menu for next week's festivities too. I hope everyone is feeling! better soon-my two were a bit off colour last week with coughs and nightwaking etc. I'm going to keep on with the energise tablets to try and ward it off me!

    'Morning all..

Ah-ha..MSE working okay at moment and crosses fingers.

Woke up to a PM from a new member asking what they should do about an investment of theirs they are worried about - errrrmm.....goes off to hunt out crystal ball...:rotfl:

Errrmm...sorree if its someone from this Board - I've never heard of the firm concerned and have no idea on that one...

Reet....must off for another day at w**k and try not to think of angst from parental direction (from encounter that reminds me that they still havent quite accepted how different their daughter is from them in some ways......grrr...life eh:(). I've learnt to adopt (most) of my parents' approach to the financial aspect of life - but its clear now all these years later they will never accept that I'm a very different person to them in other ways...<sigh>..gives up trying to get them to understand...it aint a gonna' happen now at their time of life obviously...

Was too annoyed with them yesterday to ring and tell them to make sure they have a credit card and adequate cash on them in case they find debit cards don't work temporarily for a bit soon - with all the cyber attacks on Visa that are happening at the moment (ie because they gave way to pressure by the US Government not to transmit money to Wikileaks). Anyways - guys/gals - you lot keep a credit card and bit of cash to hand whilst the cyberwar is going on - as a shopkeeper told me that debit cards won't work in their machine if Visa is down at the time I try to use it.

    Hi all

I've not posted for a few days but have read most posts - hope all those who are poorly will recover soon :)

Well I have the lurgy now and had to cancel my flu jab which was supposed to be this afternoon :( I'm freezing cold, altho house is warm, and my fingers really really ache - hope this isn't the start of proper flu as I am no way near ready for Xmas

I have done both my Christmas, and New Year shops online with MrT so at least those are covered. Storecupboard is fairly well stocked I think in case I can't get out for a few days.

However, my worst nightmare is that I just don't trust the weather forecasts anymore  I really need to get to M&S for Dad and SM presents but its a bit of a dodgy journey in snow or icy conditions. Metcheck has given snow for this afternoon, altho BBC said we would have it at 6am (we didn't) and they are giving sleet for tomorrow, which could mean a white out rather than what they are forecasting... I just don't know... I guess I do still have just over a week to get my last few things done.... But am worried that between being poorly, and the weather... it won't get done :(

House is a flipping mess, still. Behind on washing etc... arghhhhh

Anyway, nowt I can do about it today so I am going to bed for a couple of hours before picking DDs up from school.

Keep warm and well everyone :)
  • I sat by ou front doo last night as the sofa was full, we rarely use this door and it has a draught excluder on the floor and a heavy curtain overhanging it but my back was sooooooooooooooo cold!!

I think I need to put something over the letterbox but I'm not sure what to do, I obvioulsy don't want to spend any money. How do I make something that's heavy enough to stay "down" but not too heavy for Mr Postman? I was thinking about bubblewrap but not sure it's heavy enough.

DSS is supposed to be flying down from Glasgow on Fri and I'm so worried about the snow, we don't see him too often and I'd be gutted if he didn't make it as he's only coming for the weekend for an early xmas lunch. Fingers crossed!

I was losing loads of heat through the letterbox, so I used some polystyrene from a delivery and wedged/stuck it to the back of my inner letterbox flap. I also used some of that draught excluder stuff around the edges. It works!!:j
