  • Hi all..sammykaye..wow your busy babe..i think your wonderful for looking after your niece..i can tell you one thing i would have serious doubts about giving your niece back to your sister...i hope your mum is ok....
Mrsvegplot..thanks..we made it through the night with no more puke thank god...but she has a bunged up nose and a hacking cough...hmmm sprouts..ours are going great..they are huge..well done for getting on with it..as some one recently said,"when the going gets tough they sod off down the pub and us women roll our sleeves up and get on with"..i love that quote..
Kidcat..sorry to repeat it but i think your son maybe suffering from aspergers too..my son's best mate has it..and his mum is a star..she lets him know about a month in advance of any changes she is making so he gets it in his head..therefore its not sprung upon him..he seems to be doing ok with that now...
We doing the decorations today..must relax and breath..we have a big house and lots of decorations..thing is we totally transform the house..including christmas throws and cushions, cutlery and crockery..i know i know..but its what i do..so we have about 30 boxes of christmas stuff and the house goes into total chaos whilst we are doing it...but the end result is worth it...for the first time this yr we have some outside lights and decorations for the garden too...plus a sunday lunch and one poorly girl..sometimes i wished i drank wine or something..but i don't so i'll be drinking strong tea all day...
As for that SIL(future)..he has been putting stuff on facebook about me and my family...ceridwen i might need your armour babe..so i'm going on the charm offensive with him..yuk..he is not going to win this battle i guarantee it...my daughter is to be cherished not ridiculed or put down by him and his inbred hillbilly family(whoops did i say that outloud)...
Right tea's all round i think...
    take care all
    love
    ftm
Be who you are, not what the world expects you to be..:smileyhea

    :jDebt free and loving it.
  • Great to hear from you Sammy, we've all been worried.
FTM, good luck with SIL, if it helps, borrow my name for that sort of person, Cleetus the slack jawed yokel, I think it's from The Simpsons.
BB1984, I'm with you on the uni stance.
I met the latest lot of foster children yesterday, they freak out if anyone raises their voice, so DD & her hubby have taken to singing loudly if the need to call to each other.

Mrs veg plot when you plant your brussels next year make sure you heel them in well and again when they grow if it has been windy. They like their roots firmly in the ground and love clay soil because it is so heavy. Rocking caused by the wind loosens the roots and causes blown sprouts.
  • OH went on his staff night out last night, it was a meal with 2 drinks and £10 chips at a local casino. All paid for by the company. They also had a kitty for drinks which was made up through winnig inter company challenges during the year. OH cam ehome £75 richer. He said it would have been easy to stay and lose the money he made but he saw his friend who had won £200 lose it all on a roulette table so he left at 11.45pm and came home.

Were going to use the money to pay the deposit for pontins, the boys want to go again in the 6 weeks holidays. Weve normally booked by now but just havent had the cash this year - havent started saving for next xmas either so have put £10 away.

popped into town to get the boys some joggers from primark, they didnt have any again but I did see sparkly shoes in the sale from £2 a pair Gailey.

B&M had click kit buzz lightyear for £2.99 each (they £9.99) in argos, so got the boys one each out of their money of their godparents.

Lazy weekend as the boys have viral infections, they dont want to stay at home and the doctor said we dont have to - I think most of the school have coughs, colds and general tiredness!

  • Great news about your job, Charley's Aunt - perfect Christmas present - and ()s to those who are still living with uncertainty over theirs. NualaBuala, you get that appeal in! Good that your aunt left you something gailey and hope it makes life a bit easier. Glad your winnings have come through too SammyKaye and hope you are keeping your head above water - one thing that rang alarm bells when I read your post is that I heard something on the radio just the other day about women who had been conned out of all their savings/run up enormous debts by men posing as US soldiers and Iraqi veterans. Hope that's not the case with your sister.

Hope you're feeling better now catznine and anyone else who's been ill or who's looking after ill family. Also FTM and everyone negotiating tricky family relationships - especially at this time of year. Or trying to balance too tight budgets! Or just to keep on top of Christmas without stress levels going into meltdown! Kidcat, your DS sounds so like mine! Think I told you already about his dismay when we skipped our old dishwasher! Athough he is better at letting things go now he's older - as long as he has time to get used to the idea. He even managed to clear out a couple of boxes of his old toys last year.

I'm sure I've missed lots of significant things going on in other posters' lives and I sincerely apologise and will try to keep up! ()s to everyone who needs them and lovely to hear snippets of happiness and good news too.

I have also been following the student protests with dismay. Have been on several peaceful protests/vigils in the past - CND etc (showing my age!) but would think twice now. My nephew and a friend's daughter went and said it was very scary as could not easily leave Parliament Square once it started getting violent. And my sister got caught up in a skirmish in a previous demo simply while she was walking along Oxford street. Police wouldn't let anyone out - I suppose no way of knowing if people were genuinely leaving or trying to regroup and attack somewhere else although i thought the police response was scary too. Sad that you can't hold a protest now without it being hijacked by those out for trouble.

DS announced that he is thinking of doing an apprenticeship rather than going to university. I have been half encouraging this - he had also been talking about trying for a merchant navy cadetship - as I don't want him or DD2 to start their adult life with the huge debts DD1 has from her student loan. She would like to do some further professional training but that would mean still more debt. Suddenly find I have very mixed feelings and that I would like them to have the opportunity to go to university after all - but at the same time, I don't think they/we can realistically afford it. I am worried enough about their last year of school as they are already missing teachers in some subjects, another three are leaving at the end of this term, next nearest school is already full and we're not eligible anyway unless the secondary dept here actually closes, as opposed to limping along with ever shrinking provision.

  • Gosh, busy time all round on here - I don't know how some of you do it, especially those with small chilldren - such a lot giong on with school this time of the year too. Thankfully we have moved on from that stage!
Had a bit of spare cash this week, so have bought extra loft insulation after seeing the price of heating oil - 50 per cent up on what we paid in October. Can't help thinking some of this is just profiteering. Going to try our best not to have to buy more until next Summer. We have a woodburner in one room, so will try to use this for heat most of the time. Oil fired rayburn (a mistake) is usually used about 3 months of the year, but will not be going on at all this winter.

Will be putting the decs up, writing cards and making savoury pancakes for dinner (DDs favourite).
Luckily can be finished off in the microwave - no oven without the rayburn! Have one of those combi microwave jobs, but oven in that has now stopped working. Ah well, makes me more inventive.
Hope everyone is staying warm and able to get out and about now.

Charlies aunt, lovely to hear some good news.

Feel for those with unexpected bills - know the feeling, just as you think you've got it all under control ...... but you'll get there in the end.

Right - off to finish the Christmas cards before I start reading again and another hour goes by!

I honestly don't think it's just rent- a mob -getting riled up and aggressive in the student demo's. A whole lot of them are really angry that the gov. just pulled the education ladder up on them.

Looking at it from their point of view with loss of earnings for 3 years, tution fees, living expendes, loss of EMA for getting your A levels it all amounts to about 100k for a degree, what chance of ordinary kids managing that?

Higher education is just for the rich now.

Must admit missed a lot of the detail on irish budget is it a lot worse than our spending reveiw. plus this may be daft question but can irish people relaocate to uk and still get uk benefits as within eu. Saw the last part of the budget on bbc parlaiment last night and they seemed angry bunch.

Lindyloo-well done hubby on sensible approach to winnings. be nice to have part of next years holiday paid for. Not to worry you though hun did hear 2weeks ago that pontins may go bust or in serious financial trouble so maybe worth investigating or if you paid by visa would it be covered.

Sammy k-glad you ok hun, you so busy and thats realy nice of you to have your neice when you got 3kids. does your stepson live with you fulltime.
I cant belive how irresponsible your sister is. Im sure if shes got inconclusive smear test she will fail army medical and dependants wouyld be looked at. does she normally dump neice on your mam then. Do hope she makes it back in time for xmas.

I think the foster ideas worth looking into if owen agrees , good news on housing points front hopefully you get house soon and must be best xmas present ever to be debt free by xmas.

I would like to foster when my kids are older I think if hubby agrees and we have house big enough as belive they need their own room.

Been out most of day at horse santuary/visitor centre with indy, baby, her best mate and her mates little sister as we went for the grotto. They liked the ponies, indoor softplay and santa but was cold and im shattered now.
Plus we spent around 38quid :eek:as entry for 4 for 12quid as half price as winter, pound for santa and presnt but they gave present for baby too and dident pay for her. 17quid in cafe for lunch and 3pounds in giftshop but they enjoyed it and would rather create a lovley festive memory than buy lots of expensive toys she will have forgotton in months time.

Hubbys taking eldest tree shopping this week as payday wed .
Hoping to take her outdoor iceskating maybe.
Hoping to get all of my xmas shopping complete this week and do some xmas related cooking and baking.
Got dreaded foodshop to do too.
stupidly told hubby i would do xmas shopping alone as know how much he hates crowds .Hoping if can get it done by end of week and wrapped I feel more chilled and can enjoy the xmas festivities.

Had crazy idea I hope dont live to regret but anyone watch kirsty and phils perfect xmas. The first one was a kids party and I felt inspired what a lovley idea. kids break up friday so invited indys best mate who goes to different school and her 2half year old sister round for tea and was going to invite her little mate from her class in school and her and her family are so nice and indy really gets on well with her.

Was going to try xmas tree/star pizzas
    xmas sandwiches
    mini quiches.

    xmas gingerbread.

make the snowman pinatta with choc inside looks simple probably very tricky havent paper mached in years.

get some balloons, bubble and cheap xmas craft sets from family bargains to keep all 4 4years olds and 2year old amused.

By friday our tree will be up and home looking more festive.
Maybe im scrooge but hate xmas decs up too early plus with real tree in newbuild/central heating wnat some pine cones left on it xmas day.

Im so tired but off on rare night out as its hubbys works do in southwales he wanted me along.Mam and mate couldent babysit but oddly enough hubbys best mate, eldests godfather has agreed getting worried hes not normally so happy and obliging where kids concerned. baby should be in bed.

Hubbys done comprehensive emergancy contact list including out of hours doctors surgury, theeir gp details, dob, address and fullnames.
Hes also included grandaparents numbers, both our mobile numbers too. we only 5mins drive from a and e doesnt stop us worrying as we litterally must go out together just 3-4times each year.

Any ideas what to do with a stroppy 4year old with princess sydrome. At moment all she wants to wear is party or fairy dress.
Hubby says shes acting like mini teenager with her strops.
