Hippichiq - with the microwave take it back from where you bought it, tell them its faulty and you want another one

The cooker - ring the manufacturer customer service department and say its only three years old and you dont expect it to pack up on you. I have a dvd player once that packed up after about 18 months, i rang Phillips and complained and they repaired it free of charge.

Theres something in the consumer laws about them having to prove its not an inherent fault, you dont have to prove that it is - they have to prove it isnt

    Morning Girls :)

I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction please.

I have a Hotpoint EW74 Electric Cooker, and during the past week the LED Clock Display flickers constantly when I'm using either the top or bottom oven. Neither oven has been cooking at the correct temperature for about a month now - temperature inside oven is around 20ºc less than whatever temperature I set it too.

I'm worried (and am pretty sure this is the case) that if the LED display fails, my cooker will no longer function.

    Hi Hippeechiq,

How about emailing Hotpoint giving them the model number and see if they have any suggestions. Have you tried turning the oven off and then on again to see if the clock will adjust? Also ask around to see how much it would cost to have the oven repaired - some repair places cheaper than others. HTH

Haven't posted for a wee while but have caught up now and am sorry that folks here are having such a rotten time. Big (((hugs))) to you. Winter can be such a difficult season with its relentless cold weather and the short dark days. Keep going with the nourishing meals - have a look to see which foods are good mood lifters. So difficult to get going if you are feeling down. Maybe try 5 mins exercise? A dance around to some fun music? Try to get out in the sun when it does shine. Easier said than done though.
I haven't been to a supermarket for nearly 2 weeks as our road here is still thick with snow and ice and i haven't fancied venturing out in the car. I've enjoyed going to the local shops though and it has made me more aware of their importance to people who can't go far.
Thaw today - I think it might be 1oC:D. I'm glad the weather is improving as we are off to Cheltenham tomorrow for the racing and to have a few days away. Didn't look likely a few days ago but fingers crossed now. At least the M8 is open again!
    Take care all. Keep warm.

I'll never catch up with all the posts but reading some over what strikes me is that they are so well written and entertaining, even if the subject is sad. You are a great bunch of people and are so supportive of each other.

My DD had a bf for years who was nasty to her. It ended in violence (he hit her in the street and broke her nose) so she left him. She's now married to lovely man and says that she can't believe that she was so stupid for such a long time. Hang on in there with your children, keep an open door for them and give them your support. I could have filled a hot water bottle daily with the tears I cried over her so I know it's not an easy situation to be in.

Thanks to all who took the time to reply about my cooker problem :)

janb5 I daren't turn it off, because I have a strong feeling that it wont come back on if I do

suki1964 I bought the microwave online (I don't have a car), but I'm loathe to complain and ask for it to be replaced when my cooker is playing up, as without either, I'd have no means of cooking at all.

I've been whittling about it all morning and it's doing my head in, so I've taken out the H0tpoint Repair Plan and will just have to make cutbacks elsewhere, although I'm not quite sure where or how at the moment.

I just had visions of a ½ cooked dinner on Christmas day - in theory, I still might have that, but at least it wont cost me an arm and a leg to get it sorted, and at least I could finish it bit by bit in the microwave so none of it got wasted if that did happen.

I don't know why I should feel guilty or underhanded for taking out the repair plan when the cooker is playing up, but I do :o , but then again a cooker should be made to last longer than 3 years! I might wait a few days - maybe a week - and then ring them to come out and look at it before Christmas.

I got a new Calor gas cooker and one month short of the year, one knob started sticking... I was on that phone within minutes and said "oh dear I am SOO sorry, I was just checking papers and discovered I hadn't taken out insurance...can I do it now ?"! As soon as the paperwork came through I was back on the phone saying "Oh dear, I cant turn the front left gas on" ... :D I have no shame !

Quite right too Mardatha- I have no shame too! All my appliances have an unhappy knack of dying gracelessly after their guarantee date. And as for ovens my brand new oven died just before Christmas one year leaving me to rant and rave on the phone to get a replacement!

Flowertotmum, Hang on in there with your DD, and try not to critise the awful potential SIL to her - sooner or later she'll see sense. This comes from a been there worn the t shirt point of view, until I got together with my OH I had a series of frog boyfriends, even married a frog! My wonderful Mum never pointed out how thoroughly awful they were and I appreciated that as I'm a stubborn old whatsit and it would have made me more determined and less likely to ask her for help when I needed it. As it was she was a supportive figure in the background and stepped in to pick up pieces when I really needed her. I have now been with the most wonderful man for nearly 3 years - we have a gorgeous 20 month old daughter and no 2 is due May 1st, we'll get round to getting married the following year when it'll be an OS lovely family do in the local rugby club! Recently my Mum said to me how lovely it was to see me so happy - just a shame it took me til I was 30 to find a prince! So it might take her a while (sorry) but she'll always need her mum on her side.
