Thanks for the extra info on the gardening front dreaming - it's much appreciated....I need to make notes of all of these things
I'd love fruit trees, but I just don't have the space, not even for dwarf varieties in pots. I had a Bramley & Cox tree in the garden where I lived with my ex-husband, and a beautiful garden in general - shrubs, conifers and heathers....I'm not really a "flower" person, and I do miss it, and I so hate not having any grass anywhere. Paving slabs are so cold and lifeless.
Ceridwen - thank you for the bread recipe. I've got white bread flour (to do the Weezl recipe with) but would actually prefer to bake wholemeal as that's what we mostly eat, so it would probably make more sense to do your recipe anywayBedding? Doesn't everyone?(I know they don't - but I couldn't imagine not doing bedding :rotfl:) That's nothing - I iron tea towels, baby vests and babygros, muslins, bibs....:o the list is endless....
Well, well, well.....colour coded pegs for certain clothes, certain sized hangers for certain sized clothes, and the ironing of everything inanimate.....I feel positively sane now :rotfl:
It's 11c here at the moment, with an expected high between 14-18c, which is a bit of a shock after yesterday. I've had to put a jumper on today, for the first time since May/June time. Clear blue skies though, only the tinniest amount of wind though, but hopefully the bedding on the line will dryAug11 £193.29/£240

Sounds like progress Sammy, well done!
Good luck in the interview Julie, and I think someone else had one (or that could be on another thread)
Mardatha, it's kind of misty here too - not 3C thankfully, about 12C. Feels chilly though and I am going to go and nuke my wheatbag and make a bucket of tea to keep me warm.
I have an iron, in its box ... was last used in 2008 I think. I confess I did used to match up coloured clothes pegs - they didn't need to co-ordinate with the clothes but I did like to use them in matching pairs!
Hope everyone is doing ok - hugs where needed.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Hi all...sammy-kaye..good for you..i too have had that conversation almost word for word..stick to your guns ...good luck...
Well its cold and very grey here today..got jumper on at last...done some of the outside jobs yesterday, put the toys away, table and chairs and started to paint my window sills..will do the top half when its sunny i hope...
I spent most of my time yesterday thnking of how to word a conversation with one of my dd's about her housekeeping or lack of it..you probably think i'm mean but when we left on sunday we were itching..and when i stripped my 2 girls for a bath they had flea bites:eek::eek::eek::eek: all over their legs..i had some and so did my son and hubby...i also need to tactfully tell her that her puppy is dirty and that its not ok for my grand-daughter to let the puppy lick her fingers and then for her to put her fingers in her mouth..over-reacting do you think..but my GD has got scabby hands and a rash around her mouth..i'm disgusted...she wasn't brought up that way..and its only since she has been with her bf that she has got dirtier...god i sound awful and snobby don't i?..i'm not..its just when you walk in her house it stinks of dog pee, chip fat,cat spray...i want to throw up now...how can i tell her the reason we don't want to visit is because it stinks and we end up covered in bites without hurting her...god i'm itching just thinking of it:eek:
Back on topic..i got email from Mr S..i have got a £10 voucher next time i shop there so :j...will use that for extra's for xmas...i have just sold my first half dozen eggs for £1..thats gone straight into chicken tin for food...going to finish picking my apples later and the 4 pears i have this yr..might try and make mixed fruit jam..nearly finished knitting my first scarf..its a bit wobbly but as long as it keeps my neck warm ....
I love ironing..even the fellas pants get ironed:o...i do it to relax..stick my earphones in and i'm away...
I hoping all the extra curtain linings we have done will keep cold out and the draught excluders will help too...got all my blankets down and gave them a wash so they are ready to go...found a huge sleepsuit for my dd..need to find one for my little girl now....
Going now..rambled on again...
take care all of youBe who you are, not what the world expects you to be..:smileyhea

You do not need a lot of space - I have espalier trees and they take up less than a 12in strip down the side of the garden. Mistake as I should have grown cordon trees instead, which would have give me more varieties.
Some piccies below of ordinary cordons. You need a bit of wall space 1.5 metres/5 foot long and the same height. In a 2.2 metre /8 foot stretch you would get three three trees.

You need to be a bit careful about varieties- spur -bearers and not choose hungry triploids but otherwise, you can use ordinary cheap bare-rooted whips. Choose Clone 20 if you want a Bramley though.
You can also grow U shaped cordons, which are upright and need about 2.5-3 ft/.75-1 metre. Would suggest using a restricting rootstock. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
((hugs)) Sammy, really glad you are sorting things out!
what would you do with this lot of leftover bits??
sausages
broccoli
cauli
i have some pastry in the freezer and was thinking of making some sausagey/broccoli/cauli/cheesy pasty things with my leftover bits - i know i can make enough pasties for about 4 meals for the 3 of us but DH would prefer if i served up the veg with the sausages and some spuds like a roast dinner
so am i saving money by making the pasties or not?
i think i am but DH isn't so sure.......0 -

If I want a paper I'll walk down to the train station and pick up a free Metro.0 -
RAS, that's spooky ( I love spooky)- I was looking for you! I want to grow a plum tree. I have a nice space all marked out. Which kind should I go for up here? Cold exposed site, just under 1000ft up. My next door neighbour has one and its covered in nice red plums, but was in when she got the house & she doesnt know anything about it. And do I plant it now or when?0

That's a tough one, it probably would save money to make the pasties rather than have it like a roast but there is the psychology aspect of it. I don't know if you have any trouble getting DH on side with money saving but if you do I think it's a good idea to not make him realise you're eating budget meals, if that makes sense.
I'm not talking about tricking him or lying to him but if it brings out feelings of deprivation then maybe sometimes it's better to just lose this particular battle and give him the treat he wants. I'm like this, I need to trick myself sometimes when we're having very basic stuff, if I feel like we're scrimping I just resent it, but if I can jiggle things around to make it feel like a treat then it's good. If I feel deprived then I'm more likely to have a bit of a blow out at another time - the danger of a takeaway or something like that. Not that I'm judging your DH by my bad behaviour :rotfl: If you made the pasties would he eat them without complaint?
Of course your DH might not be like this at all, in which case ignore me! Then again I can't believe anyone would refuse pastry when offered it. I don't think this post makes sense (I don't mean it to sound like you should pander to DH), but I know what I mean...0 -
Sammy, so glad you have broken the ice with OH, great start but don't expect miracles. Also, watch the depression. You get used to them being the way they are, but depression can continue to get worse without you noticing (or him noticing for that matter). I have been through this myself with OH, in the end I told him I wanted him to have proper counselling/therapy. It has been a long and hard road but the renewed confidence and joy for life that he has found has been worth it all. I can honestly say I wish he had had that kind of help years ago when it all started. Not saying this to frighten you, just be aware.
Back to the subject, OH phoned me a little while ago to tell me he had got the spuds out of containers they were growing in. Our harvest from the tub is a whopping - 9 and a half ounces! (sorry, cant do metric!) So, I don't think we will be having jacket spuds for tea tonight!
Also, ironing........... I know that I have heard of it........ hahaha, I actually lost my iron for about 3 months, it had been put away in a cupboard and I couldn,t find it! Such a minger I am!0
