Frugal - Yes, really fed up of school asking for money, had to take cakes and buy cakes last week, money for non uniform day, money for Christmas beanie toy, money for pudsey biscuits, a trip to a french market, a trip bowling, two pantomines and the list goes on.
By bug bear is that its all short notice and needs to be in by next day every time. High school are worst offenders - if kids want to get a place on trip the money has to be in by cheque next morning, they then either cash it immediately or can take four months to cash it so it plays havoc with budgetting and balances etc. would much rather pay cash that way I know its gone and dont worry,

I've done mars bar vodka :D Was a bit sickly for me but DS(18) and his friends liked it :D

I have heard that skittles vodka is good... same with werthers original and lemon sherbets!!!

the werthers in vodka was a bit strong for me as it was a shot drink. But if you put werthers in vodkat it is more like a baileys type of drink. very very nice!!! Must make more of that for xmas!! :D

I mustered a little bit of energy and went to tescos to get a few christmas presents toady......I dont get a lot of time to leave the house as my husband had a big stroke at a tender age of 49 a couple years ago so im the 24/7 carer.......

This week he has gone into respite care cos I need a break, my health isnt too good . I bought a few things for the grand children, and bought some food for DS 1 and 2 to go in the hampers..... start now and hopefully have a box of food each in a few weeks time........

I hunted out as many bargains as I could, then id had enough so home I went which is 19 mile away.......when I was there I did take my full up money box into the coinmaster machine and I had £24.93 , :D well pleased with that....put that money aside for a short break next year......the pennies soon added up only had the money box going since september.....:D
Trying to get most of christmas shopping done this week, but I do mainly buy gift vouchers so thats the quickest way to go , plus they can then buy things they really need with the voucher money.......:)

Gailey tell your mum to relax.
3 of my 9 grandchildren used to cry if I was around when they were babies. now I am favorite person to dgd age5 and dgs age 6, dgd age 2 is coming round slowly but she is like her mother who hated anyone other than me including her dad. She got over it by the time she was about 3.
I tickle the top of dgd's head or tummy whenever I pass her and I speak to her every time I visit so she is less shy now and no longer cries. I have always believed you should not try to force things with children they take their own time in learning to be friends with you.

I am trying very hard to ignore the negative comments yet again about school and teachers. Not succeeding. If you do not like the amount the school is asking then people should do something about it. Every year we hold a general meeting for parents and this year the grand total of 1 parent turned up! This is an opportunity to speak out and say what you think but most parents don't bother. There is also the school PTA who you can pass your comments to and they should hold meeting monthly which you as parents are entitled to go to and again have your say. If you cannot attend meetings then you can send a letter in or pass your comments on before the meeting to a member of the PTA.

I know what it is like as a parent too when money is tight and I just say no to certain things. This last week as a parent I have been asked to make cakes, donate 50p for a colouring competition, £1 for dress up as a movie character day and £5 for a workshop. Now as parents we did not agree with the £5 workshop (long story) so as parents we approached and made our comments in a polite way and this has now been dropped. The difficulty is that despite what people think schools are not rolling in money and if we want to enrich the children's education then we have to at times pay for it. This year my school is going into the new financial year with a deficit of £30,000 because there is just not enough money to go round. It is a fine balance but infortnately in order to get certain things in school we have to fund raise - computers, library books etc.

    Sorry, my rant is over.

On a more positive note I told my friend today about my pregnancy. This was quite hard as she cannot have children and has only just found this out recently. We had a good heart to heart and she says that she wants to share the experience with me and not shut her out. This made me feel much better as I was dreading telling her.

Went to Morrisons and got a lovely gammon roast with maple for £2 so this will do us for two meals.

Shergar - How awful for you and your DH for him to have a stroke at such a young age... its been bad enough for my family and my Dad was 70 when the first stroke came :(

Enjoy your time off - from what I have read about stroke... as your DH is young then he has a great chance of a good recovery so fingers crossed he gets back to normal asap... love and light to you both XX

Thanks for that, Yea it was a big stroke its done quite a lot of damage, he was on life support for 7 weeks , he has no use in left arm and only very slight in left leg, he has a leg caliper, so its usually wheelchair, when he first had the stroke they had to take large part of the skull away to release the pressure on the brain and also to get to the brain to operate, he was left with a large concave on his head.....

So last year he went back into hospital to have a cranioplasty op which is having a titanium plate fitted......since the stroke he as had severe epilepsy, after 17 months its still trial and error getting the right meds to work and fits are definately not nice.....he also lost 75 per cent of his eye sight due to the haemmorage, so he went back in hospital to have an op on both eyes which thankfully regained some of his sight........:D.

He spent 11 months in 3 different hospitals before coming home, he also has had intensive physio , he also has short term memory problems, he cant use phones because of not knowing numbers, but at least he can read the daily newspaper....he cant count money any longer etc etc......

But like we say at least he is alive , he use to work self employed 12 hours a day as a builder, didnt smoke or drink and very fit without high blood pressure.........he also owned a superbike as did love biking ...........

Its certaintly life changing , for both of us, but we get along okay, theres people worse off than us, so I make sure he has food, clean, warm and comfortable home because without that you havent got much.......They say you make progress after a stroke up to 2 years.....he is now 26 months pre stroke.......but never mind we make the most of each day ......
  • Shergar - your post puts everything back into percpective. We should be grateful for what we have when we have it. You seem to be very strong and I hope that you are taking care of yourself as well. sending you big, big hugs. smiley-hug002.gif
