Has anyone found their car insurance renewal this year up to 30 % plus more than last year? I have just renewed online like for like at £175:70 LESS than the quote my old insurer offered. Outrageous!!

I've just renewed mine but am paying now the same amount for 3rd party fire and theft as i have been this year for fully comp. I wen through a cashback site but the small print says no cash back given if paid monthly by direct debit, only if paid in full. Still, it was the cheapest quote i could get. If i had stayed with my current insurers (it changes over tomorrow) then i would have to pay an extra £16 a month to keep the fully comp. i don't ike going 3rd party fire and theft but if i'm to keep the car then it will just have to be.

As my household insurance is due for renewal i also changed that today...the insurer i am currenty with has hiked the price up by more than £30 for the same level of cover...i checked out prices online and got a quote for more than £30 less and i should get up to £30 cash back (hopefully!).

    It pays to shop around!

    Massive congratulations Jediteacher :T:T:T:T:T

Wishing you a very happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy :)

Don't be afraid of sharing such happy news with us on here. I'm sure others have been thru similar experiences (14 years infertility for me, then the twins) and will share in your delight at a baby on the way :) Also, it offers hope to those still trying to have a baby.

    All the best xxxx

Just been to Mr T's for my main shop, my word things are going up. Got a good deal on some wines for my daughters party, but you can't live on that can you?, well life might be 'interesting' if you did!

Can't imagine what's going to happen when the vat goes up in January, I know it's not on food but quite a lot of 'food' items attract vat, orange juice does as far as I know and biscuits and cakes.

Will have to be doing a lot more baking and stretching stuff out.

(((hugs))) to those having a difficult time.
Jedi - wonderful news and I am so happy for you.
Mardatha - thanks for the info re ME. I'm sorry you have had such a rotten time. I have tried suggesting to my friend that she takes things a bit easier but she says she wants to keep working while she still can. She works part-time but in an exhausting and demanding job. I feel I can't be of much help to her.

  • Congratulations jediteacher :j. Thats wonderful news. Sounds like we will need to set a creche up on here next year.

Its been a roller coaster of a day now emotionally exhausted. I want to say a really big thank you to everyone for their support and advice. It's been really really useful. Well it defiantly is not a crossover report he really does owe
£11.690 plus on a personal loan (for a car) his BS is overdrawn to the tune of £700

I think that one of the reasons it has hit me so hard is because I have never had a credit card as I have always thought that they are too big of a temptation. I realise that some people have no option but to use them to survive but not having a card is a choice I made in my early 20's and it will not change now

Progress report. Despite the temptation he is not yet under the patio but it still might be an option.
I had previously taken over the finances at his request when eh confessed to 21k on cc’s which was spiralling rapidly as he was not meeting the minimum payments, he just did not tell me about this one. Re mortgaged to deal with this one. Have taken away the card from our recently opened joint account, he has agreed to “pocket money”. Will be transferring the direct deb for the personal loan to the joint account. Both of our wages go into that. Have applied for credit checks to ensure that there is nothing else lurking although he assures me there is not but accepts I don’t believe him at the moment. Have been able to pay £400 (I had managed to save a bit) into his BS account and will pay the rest off on payday at the end of the month. This account will then be closed.

I do not have his computer passwords yet but that is the next thing on my list to check.

Have sat with him and gone through the budget cutting back where we can. With some full on frugal living over the next few months I can see a way out of this now. Luckily I have saved for Christmas but will try not to spend it all and will throw what is left at this debt.

After I talked very frankly to him about how all of this has made me feel (like taking the kids and running miles away) he has finally agreed to go see the GP re his depression but is adamant he will not take tablets. I have asked him to think about how hard he wants to work at our marriage because it all feels very one way at the moment. I’ts very difficult because I love him very much but I have made it clear that my priority is keeping a roof over the kids heads and food on the table.

:AThank you all for your advice and support. It’s helped me through a really tough day :A. Roll on tomorrow, a new day.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Good luck MrsVP... Would your husband take paracetamol if he had a headache, or iron if he was deficient? Its worth explaining that its exactly the same thing.... By taking antidepressants you are correcting an imbalance in the body.

My Mum was totally against antiDs and used to tell me to pull myself together and get on with it without meds  She soon changed her mind when she was diagnosed with depression, refused meds at first, then caved in... She subsequently suffered a few panic attacks altho she never admitted it... She has since had more sympathy for my illness!

Perhaps if it explained by you and the GP, properly, then he might be persuaded. OR if worst comes to worst, give him an ultimatum  if you feel able to.

Thoughts with you - keep strong :)
  • I love seeing the bright spots on this thread, the expected babies and frugal`s dad getting the help he needs and SKs win. Its such a dreary day today and we have had the builders painter in for 3 days touching things up that should have been done before we moved in. A very nice man too but by golly he could talk and talk so I ended up hiding in the kitchen so it has been a very long 3 days. The `highlight` of my day was showing my face in the village hall for a coffee morning and buying a couple of books. lol well one is martina cole and I can never put hers down, so I can look forward to that and I`ve got a magnum in the freezer :T

We had a refund cheque yesterday and I went on the laptop when the painter went. Its a fatal combination, oh well it isn`t really because I have bought me and dh identical christmas presents. He never knows what to get me so I bought my own and he won`t know what until christmas day. They are kindles and a case so that is me completely done re presents.

My veggie box had no onions in it yesterday so I used dried onions which I processed 2 years ago and I also did porcini etc then. Two years ago in a mad moment I gave my more basic dehydrator away only to unexpectedly move to somewhere where I now have an allotment and I am wondering how on earth to store my produce next year. I bought another and better one today and have already convinced dh about the value of drying berries and all sorts of produce. Well my porcini alone have paid for it really. Suffice it to say that it is cheaper to be out and about than sat here :rotfl:

It doesn`t half feel like winter is closing in
