  • :rotfl: typical male behaviour, my husband does that too, and sometimes,if I am cranky he will say "I am sorry, I don't know what I have done, or will do in the next five years to annoy and upset you, but I apologise here and now in the hope that you won't chop my balls off!" Never ceases to make me laugh, and I can't stay annoyed for long, and he knows it!

Your hubby should give out lessons to others....that would bring me out of the worst of stropes as well:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:The only sign of understanding from my ex would be a solomn look, the sign of zipping his mouth closed and giving me LOTS of space:D

Well we're really hitting a rough bit in the weather now. Hugs and love to all that are feeling it.

had a good day yesterday, not entirely os but enjoyable. DD2 went off for day with ex, so myself and dd1 went for a potter about town (had some spare cash for once) Bought 2 nice jumpers from BHF for £6.50, had a good mouch in all the shops. Ate lunch out (this is a real treat) so nice to be able to do it as DD1 really appreciates it.

Later did some xmas shopping on the Jewellery channel. Had hoped to make gifts, but as I don't think I will be fit enough to drive to Manchester, its more cost effective to do it this way. Spent a total of £70 on 5 pressis and 6 stockin fillers:) (the most expensive from me to me. Its a lush tanzanite ring for £19.95:DI deserve it, I hardly ever buy anything for me:D Mum got the 2nd most expensive a beautiful fresh water pearl necklace - well she is 70 on 1 jan, so deserves it. Could have spent more but managed to switch the channel of in time:D

Getting excited about BBFL delivery, but don't no where I will put them. Also, xmas hamper due.

Weather here in cornwall is currently cold with beautiful sunshine. Sorry to hear about snow.

Lots of potato boats made now and ready to freeze. I know just where you are coming from mardatha, my dh is still out on a cycle with his club while I have quietly been doing things to contribute to life. I don`t think about it though as he is always in a good mood after cycling but what I do think about sometimes is who would take care of ME if I needed some medical care. I mean I sort myself out every time and also him if he needs it. He wouldn`t have a clue if I were poorly.

I froze all the buttermilk in 100 and 200 ml portions and have taken the frozen cool packs out of the freezer and scoffed the last of the ice cream as I am going to need every inch of space, having frozen lots of chicken stock yesterday. lol I just remembered about the cadburys still in the fridge, I knew there was something nice this afternoon while watching the corrie catchup. I wish he`d hurry up and get back or he`ll be having re heated lunch as I`m getting hungry and I`m not going to hang around all afternoon

Kittie, how do you make your potato boats ... I think I am going to do my baked spuds today and like the idea of cramming extra butter and cheese in. :D
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Sometimes I'd quite like to sell my family too :) altho all is peaceful this morning. DS has gone fencing with his father and DD is baking foccacia bread in the kitchen.

()s Mardatha and csarina and anyone else in need of one. If you do go out for a walk mardatha, don't slip on that ice - I should send you my plaited tights snowshoe thingies and you could test them for me! (Knit yourself some??!) Wind is getting up by the minute here - don't know where you are Kitty but in that January hurricane a few years ago, the sea pushed our boundary fence 150yards into the croft. There were boats and cars washed up all over the place. I don't know about going out to watch - I was quite glad in the morning that it had been nighttime and dark and that I didn't see the extent of the devastation until afterwards - I think it would have been terrifying - bad enough that OH had to keep going down to the harbour to check on the boats. Chunks of our only road out were swept away so I'm thankful that we stayed put - and only too well aware that another family on another island weren't so lucky.

Csarina, I'm sure that is an entirely normal reaction to all the stress you have been under with OH being in hospital and having to hold everything together/keep everything going on your own. Take care of yourself too. I am sorry you are giving up your quilting but I do understand why - it is hard to charge realistic prices - especially for bigger things - wonder myself if really stand a chance of ever making a proper living from it. Not to mention regular crises of confidence about whether or not I'm actually any good at it! And increasingly stiff and painful hands. As well as life being too short to make 32 points meet accurately in the middle! I keep coming back to it though.

Ohh whats a potato boat? is it like the half potato skins farmfoods sell?
    As hubby loves them.

Been hectic morning loved our fridge back from hallway to kitchen.
Problem is kitchen far too small and not enough storge plus slowly falling apart.
we had to remove some workspace to fit huge chest freezer and large fridge in but from moneysaving point of veiw and soon being a family of 5 cant cope with anything smaller and dont have a garage.

If we owned I would try and extend kitchen as our driveways pathetically small just about foits the micra but not the bmw think cars were smaller back in the 80,s.
Bit stuck whats cheap to make kitchens better as its just awful.
Cupboards broke last year landlords replaced 2 with one that dont match the others and narrower than what was there before plus taller so couldent store cereal boxes on top like we did before.

Mt dream house would have kitchne large enough to eat in so wouldent despair so much when baby throws her dinner on floor.
    Garage and ultility be nice.
pantry walk in definatly my nans pantry was same size as our 3rd bedroom.

But unless can get giant duplo bricks then maybe not just hoping we can afford to rent somewhere bigger in few years but staying put atm as cheap rent, secure and close to eldests school.

Had a rare treat today went out for sunday lunch.
Wasent anything special just local weatherspoons where we got 2roast and drink for us, 2roasts for kids which were huge with drinks, fruit and colouring sets for 20.79 so very good value at least, eldest loved it!

Told eldest she could have school dinners this week so got to pay school 32pounds tommorow as owe them money as they keep cashing my cheques wrong.

Hubbys hopefully finishing laying wood floor in hallway later.
Im bathing kids as sunday night officially bath night.
My be organised and iron daughters uniform tonight.
Got some homework to do with her later.

sorted mountain laundry out this morning.
Need to re arrange kitchen cupboards later as hubby tried and done bad job everythings all mixed up cans with jars and flour.

Now I got brandy might defrost cherries from freezer and do cherry brandy as have few jars spare.
Still need to go ikea and get some more.
Want to make huge batch of mincemeat for pies and xmas chutney as mincemeat freezes well.

Still trying to run freezer right down so banned us both from buying anything frozen as during december last year got tonnes of reductions plus was going to try making stuff like party food sausage rolls, quiches, pizza and freezing .
Least I can shut freezer lids now at least.

Going to do meal plan for week as got quite a bit there after big shop yesterday.

Think the new curtains do make the lounge/diner much warmer at least.

  • Hi all.

I'm using this thread to get my thoughts down as I'm in a bit of a 'thinking panic'

I'm feeling like money is spiralling away so to speak. It's this time of year plus the cars MOT for DH's work. It's the fear of the unknown and knowing we having no savings. We've bobbing along ok, heads above water at least but we can't take a big hit and i'm scared.

It's really made me determined to look at our budget every month. I've got to scrimp even further to get a 'nest egg for emergencies' put aside.

Does anyone else do this, worry about what might not even happen? I'm tired of what ifs, they spoil my spirit and get my otherwise quite happy and content life, down.
  • Have had to change our meal plan completely as Ds2 is in his refusing to eat stage. Im sick of making and eating spag bol, seems to be the only thing he wil eat. Last night made shep pie - one of his favourites. He refused. He had to have 2 spoons of mash to leave the table before he got a yoghurt which he eventually did, then DS1 pipes up with, I'm full can I have a yoghurt? He'd only eaten a third. So tonight its sausage casserole - the boys wont eat sausage, so its being called meat casserole, know they wont eat it but its getting me down. DS1 went through this stage and Ive blocked it out, the tantrums many times a a day are so tiring. OH couldnt handle it this morning so he gave in and let him have whatever he wanted.

The only good thing to come out of today is that Ive finally got OH to throw away 3 bin bags of junk that he hoardes, its makimg our bedroom damp as there is so much against the outside wall. Weve had a change round and gotten fid of a set of shelves and a computer chair, which he insisted on keeping for the cats!

He still wont part with a bag of bar coasters and bottle lids from uni - hes very sentimental, also has every xmas tag and card of the boys and me. I so dont hoard so I admitt Im not understanding!

Gailey - havent seen those microwave animals anywhere else, took ours back the boys were playing catch with them. Got refund and bought toy story 3 hot water bottles in B&M for £3.99 each

  • Hi thank you Nuala and Kezlou for your kind words. I have really enjoyed reading all the posts today as haven't been online over the weekend.
Reading about the open fires etc. Years ago when the children were little I had a lovely silver cross bouncy pram(second hand from a friend and was like new.) I loved it. I walked everywhere then, didn't drive and still don't Dh does but we have a very good bus service here and I only have to walk around the corner to the bus stop. Well way back in those days when I was pushing the pram I used to collect pine cones and twigs etc. and put them into a carrier bag and would use them to light the open coal fire. Very ms even then, as I did not see the sense in buying sticks to light the fire when the stuff i had was free:) I loved the sound of the twigs as they caught a light with the paper and coal and I can still remember even today that sound. There were not many cars about then, where we lived and the road I walked had trees each side, and I was very fit and slim in those days too with all the walking:) Definitely not either of those today.:)

I have spent many nights lying awake worrying about what if OH loses job etc. Like you it just gets me down. I would love to have a savings nest egg but we havent, sadly if something breaks and we need it replacing we have to use a credit card and pay it off - something which seems to take forever to do

  • Hi beingfrugal. Yes I have had days like that myself, and I am sure a lot of others will find themselves worrying too. I used to get a paper and pen out when my mind was racing with money worries, and I always found if I wrote down all my income and out goings and could see it on paper It helped me feel less stressed. I hope you feel easier soon love. Different things work for all of us, and I do understand how the worry makes a person feel. There is a lot of good commonsense on this forum from a lot of lovely people, and I am learning such a lot from them.x Margaret
