Just noticed that tomorrow evening (Tuesday) there's a programme on BBC1 at 9 p.m. called Turning Back Time - the High Street. Gather it's being produced by the same TV team who produced the Victorian Pharmacy, and it's about various shops in Shepton Mallet High Street, being profiled to travel back in time for six periods between 1970 - 1970 to portray themselves as they were then. We may see some interesting childhood memories revived.0

Afternoon folks
Had big spend day yesterday as DDs needed winter boots and fleece PJs, then they saw some cute ear muffs which they asked for and as they were cheap £2 from Primani I thought i'd get them those too. DD actually slept in hersNot because its so cold in our house but because she loves them so much
Also had to get myself some new boots but they were on sale in Clarks so got £10 off those. My last ones have lasted a good few years and still look great but something in them has gone wrong as the heels feel wonky when I walk which is no good for the ole knees.
Picked up some bits for next summer in Primani sale (for DDs) as were reduced to £1!!! :money:
Have been quite down recently despite doubling anti Ds so house is a bombsite - its never been so bad. I am going to go and takle the kitchen in a minute. Kids are back to school tomorrow so must find school uniforms - maybe I already washed and put them away, not sure.
Made pom poms with DDs yesterday from cheapy wool from Wilkos (had no idea we had a wilkos near us) and cut up wine box
They were so proud of their results - its great when kids complete a project. They get so much satisfaction from it. They will take their pom poms on their show and tell days this week
Sitting here shivering as I am so tired... does anyone else feel the cold so much more when they are sleepy? Kids are warm so its just me
If I got off my butt and did some cleaning I am sure I would warm up but gonna go and see if there are any clean mugs and have a hot cuppa instead :rotfl:
Anyone heard from Chillout ? I was looking forward to the further installments on the chemical pipe explosion in her kitchen on the Prep for Winter thread :rotfl:
Cooked and froze a whole bag of baking potatoes last week - we had some for lunch today, just bunged in microwave from frozen - perfect!!! No more spuds in the bin/composter
Hope everyone is having a good day
How did you prepare your potatoes? I like the idea of having something I could take out of the freezer and bung in the microwave.
I've been reading but forget who said what ... hugs to those in need.
Some of you mentioned children with ADHD-type symptoms - wondering if you'd ever tried omega 3 fish oils or even just oily fish like sardines? I remember reading how that can help behavioural and/or mood problems in children as well as in adults.
I've got nothing done over the past few days and the mess is building up which gets me down. I have been quite busy by my standards so the ME is acting up a bit, need to pace myself a bit better I think.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Looks like we'll have to order online and then send back what does not fit.
Oh my! I so sympathise with you. My DD is 17 now and we still have problems with shoes. Getting school shoes would fill me with dread.
I don't know how old your DD is but in the end we just went to town and into every shoe shop we could find ( I used to plan lunch out as it was always an all day job) and I trusted her to try them on and tell me if they fit. She was very honest and it worked well.
This was the only way I could find shoes to fit her, nightmare!0 -
Gailey - If your looking for halloween stuff, Netto reduces their stock to really low prices. Got the boys a halloween torch each 20p for both and masks reduced from £1..50 to 10p for their dressing up box. I only went in for the 5 soups for £2! They also had decorations but I only took £3 as was on a mission after finishing reading in school and getting back to school for DS2.
Will your daughter eat pasta in her lunch bag? Ds1 loves that. sometimes with grated carrot or cherry tomotos or just plain.Mum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -
I have two DDs with impossibly narrow feet (didn't get them from me that's for certain) and have sat in shoe shops many a time surrounded by piles of boxes and shoes that didn't fit. The last time, we ended up with DocMartens - not particularly narrow in the foot but laced up securely round the ankle which apparently made them OK - DD(14) was thrilled with them, especially as she could wear them to school with impunity, despite what the HT might say - and actually very practical for where we live (in the middle of a field) so once I'd got over the price, I was happy too.
Grandma27, thanks for the suggestion about the kaftan - I have made several over the years - all based on a nigerian one I was given when I was 14 - they are easy enough to make - and I have got an even easier South African one I could copy, plus quite a few lengths of cloth stashed away - just that this one is like an old friend.
Have seen fancy patterned tights/footless tightsd in JoeBrown's but as there is no way they would fit me (sigh!) I have no idea about the price and DD has made off with the catalogue so can't check. Don't know why they still send it to me as haven't bought anything in a blue moon and don't intend to. DD likes looking though!Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0 -
kitcaboodle you need some ball point needles. They are good for knits as they push the thread aside to stitch instead of breaking the threads.0

Thanks love - I am ok, i just suffer really badly with SAD but so far am keeping on top of it and actually don't feel as bad as I have done during oct/nov the last 10 years!
Re the potatoes - I never do anything with mine when i bake them, just wash them and shove them in the oven - once they were cooked I laid them all out on the side to cool, shoved all of them in a plastic bag and in the freezer!
It was so easy - I do love crispy skins and of course, you don't get that with this method, but you do get a speedy jacket potato with no effort0 -
Nuala Buala, The big problem for me used to be doing too much when I felt well which then left me utterly whacked the next day.
I found putting set jobs on set days helped me to pace myself, so I would change sheets on Monday and dust on Tuesday. If it was a really bad day I could skip it knowing that the rota would roll around next week and I'd get it then.
I also found I could not go out two days running, so I marked the calendar and tried my level best to keep the next day 'empty' so to speak.0 -
Thanks a mill Frugal, I wll definitely try that as I have a bag of spuds getting past their best. How long do you microwave them for?
I feel for you with SAD but hopefully the anti-D at a higher dose is helping. Have you ever tried Vitamin D - was told it is good for depression in general. Actually, it seems to be one of those things recommended for lots of things and apparently we don't have enough since we don't get much sun. I take it when I remember (which is not often) and I think it might have helped me with my on and off depression. Take good care of yourself. x

Thanks for sharing your idea of having set days for different chores - that sounds like something I could work with. I have been given an exercise plan to walk 4 days a week and gradually build up. Not quite sure how I will fit that in around shopping and the tiny bit of housework I do - am worried I won't have the energy for doing something nice like meeting friends (which I don't even feel able for very often) or going to my meditation group and those are the bits that keep my sanity ... what's left of it anyway! :rotfl:Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
