rosanna it may have been the mixing together. Was it American and did it use oil? If so you need to be far more gentle with the mixing and even if it has a few lumps ,they disappear when they are baked.Once you add the dry ingredients just do a gentle short stir like making swiss roll.
  • FRUGAL - in the Daily Record up here, or the Daily Mirror down south there is a token each day for a free lego, I think its collect at WHSMith, but you can also collect 8 different vouchers and post off a token amount (usually about £6) and get them delivered all at once - they have been running it the past 3 autumns, great little gifts, it started Saturday, so you have enough time to still collect the 8 if you start today (also in the Sunday paper)

    Morning all!!

Brr!! It's so cold today. Have put the heating back on after it went off on the timer - am here in jeans, thick socks, shoes, long sleeved tshirt and fleecy jumper, so it's not as though I'm underdressed! I think the problem is that my feet are chilled, so the rest of me feels cold - so I'm going to warm a couple of wheatbags for my feet in the micro. Once I'm warmer I'll turn it back off again.

Haven't been on all weekend, so have just read to catch up - and have forgotten most thiings that I wanted to say :(

Annie56 - am still loving your tales of your new life! Ignore the nasty person :( (after reporting them, of course!!)

Sammy-kaye - HV differ so much. My first one with DD was a nightmare and woldn't believe me when I said DD was projectile vomiting - she said it was posseting - until DD PV'd over her and the sofa! :D Stupid woman swiftly put DD down and started mopping her own skirt - DD was screaming at this point. Grr!! The one I had with DS1 was ok. DS2 ok and teh one I had for DS3 was my lifeline. An absolute angel. DS3 was born late but weighed less than 6lb and after his initial weight loss was below the centile charts - where he stayed until his 1st birthday - he just made it to the 2nd centile that week!! (possibly was close in weight to what Holly is now - but a little less, if I remamber correctly!) :D The GP wanted to refer him to the hospital, but thankfully was convinced by teh HV not to. I weaned him at 6 month s- baby led, so all at his own pace. He's still small (17 months and in 6-9 month clothes) but has never been unwell. His grandparents aren't huge - tallest one is 5 7 so the gene pool isn't for big babies (my biggest was only 7lb 10 - and tehy were late) My HV was an absolute star - DH and I were going through a really rough patch and she's come to my house every week for an hour or so just to listen to me - and it was put down just as listening contact, nothing 'big' put on record because she said other people may want to get involved then, and there was no need. She kept me going through a dark time (including DD (then 11) finding DH trying to hang himself in the garage :( (Mental health team weren't concerned by this!!) I love her to pieces - but know that I was very very lucky to have her.

We're off up North tomorrow - Edinburgh for a few days - yeay! Have never been and am looking forward to it. DS1 packed shorts and tshirts... !!! I suggested warmer clothes may be the thing :D DH is working up North today and tomorrow - so we're catching the train - me, 4 kids, a pushchair & luggage.... eek!! :):)

Need to use stuff from teh fridge today - and then shove remaining items in (crowded freezer) so as not to waste any :) May result in some strange combinations :)

Off to make a cuppa & heat my wheat bags!

Have a nice break in Edinburgh, it's a lovely city but VERY COLD! gets a bit windy :) As the train passes the long empty stretch of north sea coast north from Berwick right up to Dunbar, look left and give me a wee wave !! if you see any hills away over to your left then I'm sitting on top of them :D

Has anyone used these type of moulds before or have any ideas as to what may be the problem?
    Thanks a lot ladies.

I've got 2 sets of silicone cupcake moulds, one from Asda and one from Lakeland. I've stopped using the Asda ones because the cakes never rose as well and always seemed to have a funny taste.

I make large cakes for celebrations (weddings, birthdays etc) and use mainly silicone moulds, I have found that the cheaper stuff isnt worth having and only use the more expensive stuff, the other thing to bear in mind is that they generally take at least 1/3 less cooking time in silicone. For larger cakes I also reduce the cooking temp slightly too. HTH :)

Thanks for that Kidcat I took him A&E on Friday but they insisted it would be fine and just keep an eye on it. The doctor didn't want to try and stitch or put glue on him to be honest. So just watching him a like a hawk instead.

Frosty this morning brrr, its a whopping 1 degree outside, better retrieve my jeans form out there i guess. Then were off to get the lego for snips, coddy is going to distract with toys ;) in smiths. Then off to the park for the kmx track. Think its a £1 each so should be good.

Just went to put some dough on and guess what my beloved bread machine is dead and gone :(. Luckily i was giving another so going to see if thats work. If not i may have to fork out for a new one.

None of us are dressed, bt were stuffed to the gills with porridge.
So better get a wiggle on.

I agree with kezlou and that you should report the nasty p.m.

Whover it was is obviously jealous that you are coping well and that so many of us are "cheering you on!"

    Big hug

Sorry your husband is in hospital but fingers crossed they sort out the dizzzy spells along with anything else. Gentle hug.

So pleased that furniture arrived for dining room and living room over the weekend and that things are starting to take shape.

Going to research prices for pulleys (sheila maid, hangings clothes airer or whatever they are called) as want a small one in utility room for socks, undies and emergency work outfit for DDs - and a larger one to be installed in garage for towels, duvet covers etc.

DH a bit  at what it could cost but pointed out he did not want a tumble drier or to have wet washing hung all over the house so this was a solution to it.

Also pointed out I was only asking for what his granny would have had  so he has gone a bit quiet.

Don't think he was impresssed by the home made Indian meal I made yesterday but DDs enjoyed eating it and I enjoyed cooking it - so tough!!!!!!

Making potato and leek soup for tonight and a couple of flans, maybe cheese and onion and bacon and egg - fancy experimenting a bit otherwise it feels like unappreciated drudgery when noses get turned up at it ( there is always one!)

Have strong feeling I need to get as much as possible done by end of November so we can batten down the hatches. Had thought of replacing gas hob but scared new one will not work if pilot light goes out and want a back up if power goes for any reason.

    See you later.

  • Elona - we got our kitchen pulley from Ikea and it wasn't at all expensive :) It's all metal, and looks a bit flimsy, but we've been hanging jeans and everything from it for over a year and it's still perfect :)touches wood
