  • evening ladies! must be a mummy thing with the decs, i do that too! my dad (hes 49) still has this tiny little bluebird on the tree every year that he picked with his mum when he was tiny. its so well made and beautiful, i love christmas traditions.

had to whizz up to asda for milk before, and wound up with a load of 1p bargains! lots of greens and fresh herbs for the guinea pigs, and a pot of proper clotted cream!!! batch of scones tomorrow, obviously! also got a package of steak pies too, they will go nice in DHs packup next week. I feel im definitely turning a corner with the moneysaving attitude. i habitually went to look at the mags in asda, and i just looked and thought, why the hell am i paying out for this, its either celeb guff, or cooking related stuff i can read online for free! and i walked off.:j:j:j

got completely drenched taking the guinea piogs their haul of greens, so im sat in my PJs with a cheeky pint of cider, while DH does the ironing! bliss.

Our decorations include loads that the kids have all made, some from my childhood, some of my parents (inc a few from their childhood) and some of my grandfathers too. Its a complete hotch potch and usually filled, nothing colour co-ordinated but it represents us and our family which makes it special, people visiting often comment of a particular decoration and are tickled that they all have a story. Many of our friends buy all new every year in a certain colour theme:eek::eek:
but a few have since started their "family" tree too.

Have had a very long day - took all four kids to Trafford centre for jacket for DD16 - got home to discover DS6 had lost his jacket in the centre - by some miracle it was handed in, but this meant I had to travel all the way back to collect it. Very relieved as DS would have been very difficult to get into a new coat.

And on a very proud note DD16 is going the cinema with group of friends tomorrow and she has arranged they will all meet at Asda (across the car park) to buy their sweets and snacks first, she told them they would save a fortune!! She said it was her bit of MSEing!!

Almost forgot my most exciting purchase today, I managed to get a thermal top and trousers underwear thingy for DD4 for only £2.49:j:j

Was in Aldi reduced, hoping to get the other two kids some now and possibly even me too!!

I read a quote somewhere recently, something like 'the purpose of debate is not victory but understanding' and that's something I've enjoyed on this and other OS threads.

We've all been stressing about what the statement on weds would bring and I think that's prompted more chat-type posts, understandable in the circumstances that people want to share worries where they know others will understand. ;)

I agree with you Rosieben. I'm concerned that if the topic is confined to how to make the pennies stretch further by watering down the milk and stretching the mince and chicken, that those of us who remember the previous recessions will have no incentive to stay on the list and answer the newbies. We've heard it all before, some of us have written the book. We are here for the community aspect, helping others, and maybe for the odd bit of up-to-date information on supermarket offers, benefits and more modern recipes to add to our repertoires. Every one of us brings our lifetime's experiences to this point of contact, the MSE website. Without the Old Hands at Old Style who will reassure those facing dire straits for the first time?

I don't bother to read anything other than the OS threads as the folk who haunt some of the other forums sometimes resemble a pack of wolves waiting for the newbie to stray into their fold. Interestingly they don't seem to be reproved for sometimes being very rude to fellow posters. Although one or two people have strong feelings on here, we are almost always very polite to one another. Long may it continue

Couldn't agree more, charis. I went onto one of the other forums to ask a fairly innocent question ONCE - never again. I'm not saying EVERYONE was horrible, but there were more than a handful who were utterly hateful in their answers and very very judgemental about my situation. Other people after the first ten or so may have posted replies - I never even bothered to go back and check what they'd said as I was so upset by the first batch of replies - decided I didn't need to listen to the opinions of people who could be so vindictive for no apparent reason.

OS is the place to be! Supportive, helpful, polite - long may it continue...:T

Salt is good for wee accidents, children or animals. Just put a thick layer over it and sweep it up then another layer and leave it for a bit and sweep.
