My mum, who is the queen of OS, has a wooden mushroom for darning socks. I'm not sure she'd even know where it came from, but you could probably find one in an old fashioned haberdashery shop.
I've got to go out now but will come back later and tell you the story about my OS mum and the duck fat.Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0 -
Frugalista, I honestly don't know, its not as if he's fat, he could probably do with losing about ten pounds, but not from his skinny legs or backside! Its all that Tom Jones hip swinging
RAS thanks for that, but I honestly don't think anyone - except maybe Beetlejuice - would like a sock dolls from my OH's cast offs! :rotfl: xIt's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -

I found a darning mushroom in a charity shop for 10p!! OH thought it was hysterical seeing as I have no idea (nor inclination) to darn his smelly socks - but it looks nice in my sewing box!:o:o

hmm i'll have to see about making them bolder so its easier to see them.
Thanks for that kezlou :A - I was also thinking of the 2 earlier ones from 2006 (I believe kittie linked to them in her thread that has just been closed).
Sorry to be such a PITA:o
ETA: Oops! I see you have already put one of the 2006 ones up. Soorreee!!:D

My mum (well it was originally my grandmas) had a darning mushroom in the house somewhere but can we find it now? No. Annoying as I knit my own socks and I do want to be able to darn them if they get holes after all the time spent knitting them!!
We're having a lovely stew for dinner, I'm excited just thinking about it, I love stew! It's possibly my favourite thing about winter. I am only putting a bit of beef in though, I split a 450g pack in two so half of that bulked out with lots of onions, carrots and mushrooms then we'll have extra veggies and potatoes on the side. Should have enough stew to pop a portion in the freezer as wellOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Hello everyone,
Been to harvest festival at school today, sadly not everyone brought a food item so there wasnt a big display in the hall. In Aarons class only he and one other boy donated food - I know times are hard but the food is parceled up and split between the local YMCA and sheltered (for elderly) housing. Assembly was lovely and we won the raffle! our price was a gift bag ful of john frieda hair stuff, I wont use it so am putting it in neices and sis in laws xmas present, unfortunalty apart from John Freida being in english the rest is in german!
off to read the thread from last night xxMum, wife and dinnerlady!0 -
I have a darning mushroom (actually I have two!) - you can still buy them in any haberdashers. I used to sew up tiny holes or splits in socks but tbh, I bought a pack of five pairs of thick socks from Primark yesterday for my husband and they were two quid - if I had to buy darning wool in all the right colours it would probably be more than that. So holey socks go in the cleaning bucket in the garage, and DH uses them for polishing his car...0
