Tesco are SO stingy

The only time I have ever used Tesco cafe was when I I bought my daughter her tea there (I was really pushed for time!). I bought myself a cup of tea and her a hot meal. I asked for a cup of tap water for her to have with her meal and was told that they didn't have tap water but I could purchase a bottle of water.
said surely having tap water was a requirement but they said they only had water for washing their hands but that was not drinking water.
I did buy the bottle (as I said I was really pushed that day) but NEVER again. her food was served on a plastic tray like an airline meal and it was awful!MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -
LMAO I didn't personally do the calculations, so I'll find out..........but even so the price would reduce when making bulk anyway.aj3001 wrote:Did you take into account the power to heat the jacket potatoes, the cost of the seats and tables you sat on and the hourly rate of the staff they paid to cook your potoatoes? Tesco cafe's are awful - i used to take my daughter in for a treat after we had done our weekly shopping but after several incidents of undercooked overpriced food that tasted awful we stopped going too. It used to be nice years ago when Tesco themselves did it but now you'd probably get better food in one of her majesty's hotels.
I understand ALOT more than I care to let on

At the start of this week Tesco made a money saving decision to stop putting newspapers in both the customer and staff cafe. However, following feedback they have changed their minds and are putting them back in again.0

Our Tesco's only provides drink from a vending machine. I use to take people through my voluntary work to Tesco's for there weekly shop, all were elderly, one lady was wheelchair bound. They often only had 2 trolleys that you could fasten them to a wheelchair and as we live on a seaside resort you can imagine the influx of visitors/shoppers we get which obviously a small minority would use the special trolleys as a result shortage of wheelchaired trolley's.
They also removed the seats in the front foyer so that they could sit and await there for the special bus, so now have to wait in the seats provided right next to the checkouts thus making it difficult due to space for customers to get by. The justify thise because they claim vandalism caused by low lifes in the wee hours.
Tesco's in my opinion and not very friendly to those who have difficulty in walking and certainly don't monitor disabled parking so that small minority of able boded "I couldn't give a damn about others" abuse there parking reserved for those less fortunate.0 -

Hmm - I don't quite buy that level of costs. The actual amount of staff time to prepare each potato and associated ingredients would be in the level of a few minutes (if that). The costs of the seats and tables would be spread over the number of uses during the lifetime of the tables (possibly several years), the power consumption of the oven would be spread over the number of potatoes in the oven during the cooking time.
In addition the amount we worked out was actually the retail cost of the ingredients from Tesco rather than the trade cost I'm sure Eurest would be paying.
I can even buy a jacket potato with far more filling (a bigger and nicer potato actually) for under half the price from Birmingham Market, (Similar power consumption, staff costs etc), the only thing missing is the seats and tables.
All that aside however, the biggest issue that we had with the food was not actually the cost, it was the pathetic size of the portions for the amount we paid. If there had been a bigger potato or a decent amount of filling we wouldn't have objected to the price!0 -

Not true. As many have already said the reason there are no papers in the cafes anymore is due to the fact that they are now operated by Eurest, thats the only reason. It has nothing to do with Tesco anymore.0 -
And many Sainsburys cafes are now Starbucks. I used to have tea and a sandwich for about £3, now the same costs over £5. No effing way!
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
I tell you what, they could save themselves some rental costs if they reduce them by 50%, and then the floorspace too.....................because ever since they've chnaged hands, the cafe has only been around 25% full at peak time :rolleyes:aj3001 wrote:the cost of the seats and tables you sat onHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts.
