I said Xmas was sorted and it is but DS4 is 19 on Xmas day and DD is 30 on 29th Dec and DS1 is 26 on 17th Dec and GD1 (Demi) is 10 on 14th Dec:eek::eek::eek::eek:. So more to sort out, I do this every year, deal with Xmas and forget the bdays. Argh:(0

MG,
It's just struck me that you may be able to get a package for less than the cheapest (half-way decent!) hotel+fares. Have looked at www.superbreak.com (hugely discounted rail travel when added to hotel). The very cheapest hotels they have are sold-out for the 3rd/4th but they have one night B/B at Barkston Gardens Hotel (200 yds from Earl's Court tube) + return rail from Edinburgh (on East Coast) for £133. If you go via Topcashback there's 8.8% cashback.0 -

Think the nearest tube is Chancery Lane - which always makes me think of Christmas and feel in the mood.
So suggestions for somewhere to stay? Off to google for Travelodges - seem to remember there being one near London Bridge.
MGIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Holiday Inn Express and Premier Inn both have 'basic' hotels in Southwark, just the other side of Blackfriars Bridge. Several buses go straight up to Holborn from thereIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Holiday Inn Express Southwark may be "basic" but is coming up at £181 for the 3rd December! Premier Inn Southwark is fully booked.0

Ah, perhaps not then. Sorry, I just looked at the headline figures - surprising it's so much as hotels in the City are not usually busy at weekendsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Thanks for all your lovely wishes!
As you can probably tell she's hanging on in here, no signs of making a move... best thing for me to do (I think) is stock up on chocolate and munchies and put some old films on and relax...although I am getting impatient to meet her!Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0 -

The venue in Manchester is in Didsbury (south Manchester). It is easy to get to from Widnes (M62/M60/A34) or (M56/A5103 and right at Southern Cross Cemetary), about 40 mins drive. Didsbury is packed with coffee/wine bars, or I could bring cake ...
MG - London, The Columbia is just off Hyde Park and near to Lancaster Gate. They may have a small room and they are economical. For sleeping, there is a hostel near Swiss Cottage (Ok nowhere near Lancaster Gate), it is clean and cheap. PM if you want to know more and I will look up the name.
How are you getting to the smoke? - Do you need to buy a railcard?
