scaredy, yes, I am near Norwich.

Right, am going to take my sorry self to bed - have to be at a breakfast meeting bright and early in the morning, so will tell myself that I am leaving negativity behind and will wake up in a better frame of mind.

Thank you for your support - as always. You lot will never know just how much this site means to me xxx

Thank you, like I say, I know it is shallow, but I also know that sometimes it is the strangest of emotions that seem to be all encompassing when you least expect them to be :o

I suppose that if I have waited 40 years for life to begin, it won't do me any harm to wait just a little longer!

It's not shallow at all, you have been through so much this year already, turning 40 is a huge milestone and there is nothing wrong with wishing you were the one getting whisked off to NY or where ever.

Personally, having greeted every birthday with great excitement, I had a real problem with 40 and was as miserable as sin. Refused a party and just had a quiet lunch out with my Mum, 2 sisters and 3 nieces. Very strange, never felt this way about any other birthday before or since & still don't really understand what that was all about  I turned 50 earlier this year and have been happily celebrating for 6 months :o

Maybe, after all the changes you have been through this isn't THE one to celebrate in a big way. You could choose to celebrate 41 for instance, once you are debt free and in your new home. Who says it has to be 40 anyway? :rotfl:

Hypno, it is not shallow - one needs to feel part of something from time to time. But you have your kids and you have us lot - we are not going to take you to New York; we are going to take you to the stars. As much as I love New York there is no comparison.

Hope you sleep well and feel much better tomorrow. And being 40 is wonderful - for that matter anything later is great too; young enough to enjoy life and old enough not to care about what anyone thinks.

MG - So pleased your first day has gone well. It is a huge step but a very positive one. Can't wait to see what you are going to surprise us with next! Also very exciting news that we have TV interest (although I also need very small buns and the flour bag)

OO - Today is just a wobble, everything will be fine and there will be 10,000 smiles for Christmas.

Claire - Sorry the cold is still hanging around :(

Mike - Please don't leave us. You have so many great comments and a fantastic way of looking at things from a different point of view - Very useful indeed (& sometimes so blindingly obvious I think why the flip didn't I think of that!)

Positive thoughts to every one else on their challenges, be they big or small, for them selves or to help others :T

  • I planned to go to New York for my 30th with my husband. My good friend at the time turned 30 the year before me and was really down about it so I shared my grand plan with her. Her husband then whisked her off to New York for her 30th. The following year when I turned 30 she celebrated that with my husband and I never did get to go to New York! I hope this makes you laugh because it's so tragic you couldn't make it up! And the best of it is, I wouldn't swap for the world. She can have New York, and my ex, and a new baby, and foreign holidays, and new clothes, and the Tiffany jewellery and 2 cars and all the trappings of 'happiness' but I think we all know that those aren't the things that bring true happiness. Give me my little house, 3 little boys in pyjamas, freshly baked cake, lovely friends that make me laugh and a boyfriend who leaves me prosecco in the fridge anyday of the week :)

I would like to tell you what I am planning for my 50th. I want to do the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage and go across the US on a motobike (yes in lathers). Don't even want to mention my plans for my 60th...

  • Couldn't thank you for the link for some reason Firewalker so thank you. Thought that was really cool and helped to give shape to some of my concerns about the education system.
