I live in a gound floor flat, which backs onto our communal back garden - which is where the manhole for the communal drains is.
Anyway, to get to the point... i've got water coming from somewhere in my kitchen, and i suspect it's from the drains, as for some reason, there is an open pipe in my kitchen floor, set in the concrete. i think it links to the drains as it is about 4-5 in in diameter.
Is there any purpose to this pipe? it just goes straight down and the waste pipe from the sink goes in a different direction. Can i block it off somehow so that i don't get any more flooding?
thanks
Scaredy, it sounds as though it could be either a "rodding point" or maybe it was used for pulling electricity wires through.
Either way, I would have thought that it should have been capped.

Dropping in for a bit of cheerleading!
Well done on Day 1 Memorygirl and amazed by that you are on the path to fame or a legend in your own lunchtime at least :-p
Well done Claire on all the followers - am sure they will convert into sales, as your stuff is gorgeous.
Now off to draw myself a mind map of how I can find myself a Gabriel Byrne look-a-like boyfriend. (Obviously I'm too far down the queue for the man himself!)0 -

Well I am just 14 days into my 200 day challenge of doing my PhD fieldwork. But in March I was still waiting to see if I had my funding. By the end of April I had quit my job and become a full time student. Now I'm in Kampala researching some crazy topic(!) You know I never though I could *do* this. The MDAM thread and Matrix have really changed the way I think. I am so open to expecting the best now and not writing everything off because I feel I don't deserve it.
I had a wonderful time this evening with some ladies from my guest house and some other friends. Here's to fun and friendship:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
Erm, hello, erm, I'm a bit shy and have wanted to creep out of lurkdom for a while but have been a bit nervous about doing so.
A few weeks ago I was curious to see what was happening on this thread having been a lurker on hypno's incredibly inspirational diary for 1 1/2 years. Within a couple of days of starting to read the MDAM thread I asked the universe for some help and it all came tumbling to me.
So like many others my life has been an incredible journey over the past four weeks even as a spectator and for the first time in ages I can see I have a great future to look forward to.
I am another who wants to come off benefits but from a health point of view I am not yet ready. However I have been starting to come up with ideas and the decluttering (which I had been doing slowly for a while) has been stepped up with help from one of my carers so that I can catch up with paperwork and get some help to sort out some much needed repairs to my home.
I have only just started Mr Big's challenges but as I clear the clutter I can see me being able to spend more time working through them. I have set myself a target of being clutter-free and up to date with all the home stuff by Friday 17 December 2010 which is less than 100 days since I started, but I want to be ready to hit Christmas and 2011 without carrying baggage forward from the previous few years.
Please may I join the matrix? I was a bit reticent before because I don't want to take things too quickly and set my health back again (done that a few times before as I am very good at over enthusiasm!), but I understand that we are all working at our own pace and when we are ready to get involved we can take the plunge.
You are an incredible group of people. Even though I am not in debt I have been hanging around the diaries because when I've found things tough there has always been something inspiring in diaryland to give me a boost.
Thank you all for your energy and strong desire to make a difference. It is definitely infectious!Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0 -
