Hi All , have been inundated with flies since the warm weather has arrived.I am presuming its to do with the temp of my house as i know its not dirty.,they are really getting me down now, don't want to use fly spray as daughter has asthma , short of keeping all windows and doors shut all of the time :( has anyone got any ideas of how to keep them at bay? .I certainly didn't have as many last summer could my dog be the problem ??? willing to try practically anything now. please move if i have posted in the wrong place

Has the dog secreted a prize of some kind under his bed or something? Is his bowl absolutely spotless? Has your daughter taken something to eat upstairs and forgotten to bring it back? Is there an ex-fox in the bushes? Has next door left the lid off their dustbin?

In fact: have you seen your next door neighbour for a couple of days?

Sorry for the grossness, but all of these could account for loads of blowflies in a clean house.

I made my own fly screen with voile. Just cut the right length , sewed a hem at the top, put a curtain rod through and hung it up. Sometimes the bottom has to be weighted a little but i`ve not had flies for a couple of years now.

regarding dog bed and bowl , nope these are clean and surrounding areas also, kids not allowed to take food and drinks out of the kitchen had the rule for the past 17 years don't think they would break it.As for the neighbours lol yes i've seen them they also have a dog which is allowed to use the garden as a toilet as doesn't get walked and their wheelie bins are against the fence that divides our gardens. So that could well be the problem .Don't really fancy mentioning it to them as could "backfire "on me .

I was just looking at the voiles that are in my airing cupboard from years ago when I thought I was grand having a 4 poster bed:rotfl::rotfl: :o.Ihave some table cloth weights that I could use to weigh them down just about to look for the "twist to length curtain rods I use to use for my net curtains.

  • I think it's probably next door's dog and bins, then. You might be able to get a quick blast of bug killer around the lid without them noticing, but there's not a great deal else you can do about it, unfortunatelt.

I was plagued by blowflies in the dining room 2 years ago. No idea why, as it was spotless (we tend only to use it in the cooler months) and never found what was causing them :( I sucked a lot of them up the Dyson :T

Take a look at this older thread for more ideas; I'll add this one loater.
