Getting rid of flies

We had these one time and tracked them down to a 'rather manky' banana lurking at the back of a cupboard.
Don't like to hazard a guess as to how long it had been there - suffice to say that it was removed using half a roll of kitchen paper- base corner units are among the worst offenders for hidden fruit/veg!
Shelf duly scrubbed and disinfected afterwards goes without saying .0 -
hmm, maybe i should go on a hunt for a manky banana then!! chances are thats what it is!!It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

Ive noticed that there are alot of wee flies about at the minute anyway so hopefully they should start to die off. I live in the North East too0

When I opened my front door last night, dozens of the wee blighters came inside. They made their way onto the hall ceiling and I had to get the fly spray out and zap them. I made sure all the lights were turned off before I opened the door again.0

I have had loads of the little bu@@ers coming into my house lately too, and my mum said she has been having the same problem. I know mine aren't fruit flies though, they are slightly smaller, just seems to be a lot hanging around. I am in the north east too!0

In a weird way the light thing can be helpful in that it attracts them all to one place and then you can hoover them up using an edge tool.
I've noticed quite a few here in Cardiff, but not the same numbers as you you in the North East. I thought at first fruit flies, but actually I think that they are smaller then that and more like the thunder flies that used to turn up in July/August.0 -
Is it not midgies ? There's tons of them here and they come in if you have a light on ..0

I always get them around this time of the year when I bring in apples and quinces from the garden. They annoy me for days.
Thursday evening I opened a bottle of wine to breathe. When I poured a glass there were about 8 of these little flies floating in it. since then they have disappeared. I'm assuming they all drowned in the wine -what a way to go!
The wine was not adversely affected by them :cool:0
