  • Sky have a good new offer out which I think I'm gonna go for as it works out to £21 per month with a one off connection fee of £39.
For this you get unlimited broadband (up to 20mb speeds) and free evening and weekend calls. Sounds too good to be true to be honest!

Correct! Just checked that one out and it comes in at £21pcm with the £39 set up fee on top. If they waive that £39 charge I may just go for it.

Does anyone have Sky BB? They come quite high on that checker list and seem quite proven...

I'll have to get it all sorted out soon or the missus will be without the net for longer.
So the possibilities are Plusnet, Sky and O2.

...or, if you pay for the line rental unfront, it is £9pcm and the BB on top is £10 making it £19pcm.

Works out even cheaper than O2 and just behind Plusnet and TalkTalk.

What about O2 - first three months free and £50 cashback? I'll let you do the sums.

Is the £50 on a cash back site?

I factored in the first three months free (which is only the BB and not line rental) and it comes to £283pa (7.5 x 3 - 22.5, 19.50 x 9 = 175.5, 85 install). Obviously the £50 cashback makes the difference.
    Sky is £267 (19 x 12 = 228, 39 install).

Still not on the O2 system...the fix should be in within 3 months.

I could be wrong but I think its 2Gb/month not unlimited usage so realistically you need to add £7.50, plus line rental to either sky or bt...unless 2Gb is enough for you

I asked and it's the uncapped one with no peak time choke, just 'other users'. As Vixi said, they put an offer on in what must have been the last few days until the start of November and the package is £10 cheaper pcm...£12 if you pay in advance for line rental.

Anyway, as they said, they rang me back when they did and Sky are coming out to install the line on 01/11/10. They said "Oh, your address isn't on the system!" (Here we go again I think!). "Is it on Royal Mail? Oh yes it is. We'll add it manually"

That's good enough for me considering it could be at least 3 weeks later with O2 to get us live.

I will write to O2 and detail everything and they probably already know the problems people are having...but there have been over 1,500 views on this thread so at least it may help someone who is buying a new build house which doesn't have a line and how O2 work. And it is a shame because they will lose customers but that's how the cookie crumbles.

    :money:
  • So Sky added you manually? They started off by telling me I would have to register with Royal Mail and when I told them I was, they then said I needed to register with BT, which I already am.

The sales advisor on the phone told me it was frustrating because he couldn't see what the problem was and all he could do was hope I would wait for my address to eventually show up.

I'm in the same position as I was with O2 now!:(

The chap tried that one with me but he supposedly found a work around. O2 stated they had to use Capscan due to an Ofcom regulation (...anyone?) but Sky didn't mention anything on that one.
  • Woop, for no apparent reason, I'm now on Sky's system and able to order! Installing on the 2nd :)

Still not on O2's site though?!

Well at least we're both getting the internet within the next 13 days!

And I rang O2 again yesterday...still not on system! And again, I was told it would take "3-4 days to get on the system".
