Fireworks

DAP all the way for me, there have been fireworks going off since 7pm, which would normally have the older dog climbing the walls (I have the scars to prove it), but now, he is laying in his bed snoozing away

as per the above link really...
Bachs Rescue remedy - a little dropper bottle from boots about £5-£6. Give him a few drops in his water during the day of the fireworks, or a couple of drops directly under his tongue a few hours before they start, and again just before. we use this on my sisters staff an it's homeopathic (sp)
try giving your pooch something stodgy for dinner about 5pm like pasta or mashed potato.. like humans, a tummy full of stodge make you sleepy. take him for a long walk before it gets dark to tire him out more.
Make a 'den' for him.. cover your table with a blanket or sheet, and put make a bed for him under there with his favourite toys, and maybe a jumper of yours to make him smell you & feel safe & cozy.
Keep your curtains closed to muffle the sound & light. Keep tv or stereo on to help drown out the noise with noise he is used to.
As difficult as it may be, try not to react too much to his terror. Tell him he is a good boy, and that everything is ok, but don't 'pander' to his feeling as apparently this only makes them worse!!
If you let him out in the garden after the fireworks have finished, make sure you go with him to supervise - some dogs can bolt even after the fireworks have stopped!0 -
well here we are with the fireworks, i must assume the plug in and collar i got him works
Fireworks have been going off, and Perry isn't bothered at all.
Had to drive my ds to cadets tonight so left the tv on whilst i was out for the 20mins, and he was his usual chilled out self0 -

hi
hope you can help, lucy my 6year old staffie cross is a bag on nerves i have been giving her bach but you might see from another post we have now got a 14 week old staffie , we are going to vets tomorrow, would you suggest i see if i can get something to drug her since we are worried if bob starts picking on her she might get nasty, i know this sounds bad but she gets in such a state i doubt she can cope.0 -
The valerian and skullcap has done no good
as the cat refuses point blank to take it/eat food containing it - hmmm.
But we are properly the only people whose cat now has its own panic room! (A cupboard under the bolier) its in the centre of the house (so bit more quiet) and we have emptyed it out and put blankets in there and sprayed the feliway spray stuff on everything and it seems to be working. She's still scared (sits in their wide eyed etc) but as soon as she hears a bang, she runs to her 'room' and seems to feel safe.0 -
The problem I have with todays fireworks is the amount of noise they make. Animals are generally just going to be alarmed at the least with these explosions going off at any given time. My new ducks are not impressed either as it is there first experience of such random bangs. Dianne0

The pub on the next street have had their bonfire party tonight so we have had fireworks going off from 8-10pm and my two pups have barely batted an eyelash since they first started setting them off. At first, it was a great game and they were running outside to bark at the very loud bangs but when they tired of that, they just settled down and ignored them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will react in the same way over the coming weekend when there will be lots more.
I love to watch a good firework display myself and used to take my kids to an organised display when they were young but I do know first hand how distressing it is for both owner and their pets that are terrified of them. It would be much easier to deal with if owners knew it was only going to be for 1 or 2 nights, rather than having to put up with random loud bangs and frightened animals for weeks or even months before 5th November.0 -
Wow u really love plugging VetUK dont u!
Do u think we're all stupid or something??
You mention it in every single post you make. Go and Spam somewhere else! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
I have given my two wet food for both breaky & dinner (normally it's dried food for breaky). Also 1st thing this morning turned Feliway plug-in on & they will be happy enough - oh & they are currently curled up on a sheepskin rug.0
