Also of note is how much higher our prices our. It is mainly down to the VAT which is 19.6%.
Surely you mean their prices are higher?
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Sorry for confusion; I live in France, hence the 'our', but I am English, so it's kind of ambiguous.

For clarity, French HO prices are higher than UK than ones! (And LPG too I think, it's around 1700 Euros a tonne, ouch!)

Oh I see, you live in France, that explains it. :)

Coal is about the same price as oil, smokeless fuel is actually more expensive so with the capital outlay the economics don't look good:(

    In principle you're completely right!.
However, 2 split logs with one shovel of Anthracite on top would give me a minimum 12 hr burn - cost of about £1.50.
£3.00 for a 24hr period for approx half the year. Even less when i get my wood for free!.

That's constant water & seriously boiling hot radiators for £3 a day or less!.
Costs alot more than £3 a day to leave the oil boiler on all day long!. Plus the Aga heated the water & radiators alot hotter than this oil system is capable of doing!. Meaning there was hardly ever a need to light the woodstove in the living room, except for a romantic evening in or the depths of winter!.

I seriously feel like a right mugg having the Aga ripped out & an oil combi installed!. As soon as i'm able it's coming out, & a refurb Aga or Rayburn is going straight in its place without hesitation.

Sod all this buying in bulk & trying to predict the best buying time nonsense. We're being well & truly screw over sideways.
If YOU DON'T LIKE THE ANSWER THEN DON'T ASK THE BLEEDING QUESTION!.
Have A Very Warm & Merry Christmas! :snow_grin

Anyone in N. Powys / Shropshire got any leads for good suppliers? Just called Butlers and they were 67.94 (!!!!) but the advantage for us is you only pay for half the initial tank then spread the cost.

Our local supplier quoted £298 for 500l and boiler juice found one at 64.4ppl. Only problem is both want paying 100% up front and we're really strapped for cash just now.

    Any advice?

Try via a local oi buying syndicate. The CAB have a national list here (not complete!) including:

    Community Council of Shropshire
    Shropshire

A new oil-buying syndicate for Buckinghamshire:

http://buckinghambuyers.com/ They are part of a larger group with syndicates elsewhere. As an example, price quoted yeasterday (5/12/11) for the 'Bungay' group (whereever that is!) was 57p. Actually quite similar to Boilerjuice's price yesterday where I am.....

Their next 'buying day' is 12/12/11.

I have no idea how good they are and will be watching for the price they quote with interest. One testimonial on their website claimed they were 10p cheaper than Boilerjuice.....
  • Just ordered 500 litres from Watsons in Louth, Lincolnshire and quoted 68.95 +VAT!!! Had a look on Boiler Juice, to find current prices considerably lower. Phoned Watsons back to advise them of this fact and they reduced it by 4 pence :(

Since I pay by DD decided to accept that figure as wont have to pay for it straight away and they owe me money anyway!
