Cheaper Oil for Fuel?
Comments
-
I live in south Scotland and have tried to compare Domestic oil prices in my area .. boilerjuice and a couple of others are not in this region. We were charged £308.00 in sept for 700 litres and in Nov charged £340.31 then Dec we were charged £410.87 for the same amount ... I am still looking for cheaper as my partner is disabled and needs the heat on at all times (lower these days though )0

I have elderly and disabled parents living here and one trick I have for cutting oil consumption is not to have it on constant, but have to come on and off through out the day.
For me its an hour first thing to warm the house for getting up, off for 45 mins, then on for 45, off an hour - on for 30 mins - etc etc. Its off longer in the middle of the day when the sun is actually warming the house that wee bit - and on longer in the evenings when its darker. Basically the house never gets really cold so that the boiler has to work harder and Ive saved about 6 hours a day burning0 -
Has anyone had delivery since VAT Rise; did it also go up on Heating Oil??;)0

Hey all, heard a piece on radio 4 today apparently backed up by a report in today's sunday times which says that one of the main oil price comparison sites (boiler juice maybe?) is owned by the suppliers and doesn't act in a neutral way at all but is weighted towards its own supplies. Anybody read the article and care to expand?0

I have read somewhere that Boiler Juice isn't 'neutral', that was after I used them for the 1st time to get my last supply but luckily that was before the massive price hikes started. I wont be using them again and will be phoning the companies direct.0 -

Is the cost of a bigger tank too prohibitive? You are paying extra each time just for the simple fact you can't order 1000litres or more.0 -
Having read the article in the Sunday Times today, one can only imagine that Boilerjuice trading will go through the floor until things are clarified.
As a Boilerjuice customer who uses their monthly saving scheme, I have taken the precaution of stopping further payments and have requested a refund of the credit held by them - don't want to lose any of my money if they go to the wall! Moreover, I have sent Boilerjuice the following email text:
'According to the Sunday Times, Boilerjuice is owned by DCC, a company that owns many oil delivery companies. Is this true, and if it is, how can you guarantee that the prices you agree with suppliers are in your customer's best interests and not your owner's profit margin?
Until DCC sells Boilerjuice, and when you can categorically confirm true independence, I will not order through Boilerjuice.'
I'll repost if I get a reply.0 -
More on them in this story too:

I've always had a concern as to whether they are authorised to effectively act as a bank too for a few days ie between delivery and date they take money from your account.
At any one time they must be holding a lot of customers cash, between the 2 dates; with recent delivery delays, I assume this extended to weeks.0 -
Looking at the daily mail article and given the scant facts I can gather (not read the times yet) it seems rather sharp practice by DCC.
"DCC energy are being monitored by the OFT" - cold comfort (excuse the pun) for those who have already been stung by their escapades.
I live in Scotland and luckily Boiler Juice do not quote for my area otherwise I too could have fallen victim. If the government won't provide price control for heating oiul surely they could provide an independent price comparison site? I know this has been said frequently but if this was gas or electricity there'd be riots. It's not as if i'm in the position to change my heating to gas as my village doesn't have any.0 -
There's one other I know of that covers only some of country (N Ireland & Scotland), but may be useful as a bench mark.

And who knows who owns them.??0
