I dont need too that is why, if it was the lowest earners I would but not for the top 1.2M0 -

CB is being cut not on household income, just whether one person in that household pays 40% tax. Whether thats 1 single parent, or a couple.
So with all the other benefits silvercar listed, every family gets treated the same based on their household income. If its over X amount, they won't be entitled. If it's under, they will be. It's fair, everyone is on a level playing field.
With this CB change, one family could earn £86k, another 45k. The family earning 45k loses their entitlment. The one with £86k keeps their entitlment and receives the benefits.
could it be they may be changing direction to calculate whose entitled to these other benefits or was it decided this way to get the bigger value for money when it's cut?0 -
In order to make this 'fair', we'd have to do an expensive means test that would wipe out the saving made. Is that seriously what the "its not fair" people would prefer?0

Exactly the same would happen with CB now. Could have someone getting £200k a year in maintanance, yet they earn 20k, and they will continue to receive child benefits. Maintenance is always disregarded.
You are only adding to my issues here....ta

Even tory party members are saying they will stand up against this.
Basically it seems to have been a really quick way to save £1bn. Not thought through properly.
Political commentator said earlier if he was a betting man, the odds would be 90% in favour of a U-Turn or a change. So don't think we have heard the end of this. It's just a balls up.0 -
As i have said before I suspect the argument will be if you can afford to have only one person working in family then you do not need the benefit. To an extent I can see the point but they should have started th paln once a child reaches school age.
I would also argue for single parents but as the Tories are all about families etc then not surprised they have not thought about the single parent.0 -

If there's one thing that would be worse PR than what the tories have done, it would be a "Tories abolish child benefit completely" story.0 -

And it works so well and costs nothing?0 -
