Child Benefit fiasco: cuts 'unravelling' already...

The Tories have faced a storm of protest over their ill-thought-out plans to cut child benefit for some families who earn over 44K - but only if they have a non/low earning parent who looks after the children.
Obviously this goes entirely contrary to the Tories stated aims of supporting the family, so the inevitable backlash has started.
Maybe next time they should do better than working their slash-and-burn plans out on the back of an envelope the night before the party conference???

I prefer to regard the current administration as the 'coalition government' regardless of headlines or comments seeking to vilify a particular component of that administration.
As one who has so far admired the government's conduct, it's come as something of a disappointment to see such ineptitude so relatively early in the administration.
The benefit calculation should of course have been done on the basis of household income. And a government with a functioning brain cell would (a) have realised that and (b) easily predicted the public reaction to getting something so simple, so wrong.0 -
I'd get over it if I were you Carol. Either that or do something constructive about it rather than continually posting the same stuff time and time again.Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there.

I'd should link you to the Guardian artcile where the journo is mostly getting slated in the comments for his whining - wanting sympathy for him and his 5 kids - but I can't get to grips with this browser (history urls) and haven't yet reinstalled firefox on this fresh O/S install.
And I've read that Mumsnet thread and it doesn't seem "99% against the cuts" to me. There are some very funny posts on it. Like the woman who gave up work and thinks the Tories are against her idea of "rewarding ambition" in their quest to have ever more children.
Also even if opinion is weighted against the cut on that thread, then it is a thread of mothers/parents with house-hold incomes over the threshold who are doing most of the complaining. Not entirely balanced.0 -

Er..hardly again and again.
All brand new shiny news, hot off the press this very morning.
If you find it boring, can I suggest you read a different thread? The clue's in the name - easy to skip over...0 -

There's more than 1 thread - were you reading the v long one?0 -
Funny the way the relatively comfotable start squealing as soon as they think they may lose a few quid from their benefits whilst at the same time thinking everyone else should make sacrifices.0

I agree it’s ill thought out will you be happy if they make it £44k household income.0

Yes; something like 80 posts on it or so, when I read it a couple of hours ago.0
