Wow,
What a contrast.
The Artist last night, Shame tonight.
Never realised Michael was such a well built, athletic young man.
Luckily my dd was unable to make it tonight, otherwise I think my ears would have been glowing........ from all the questions on the way home of course!!:o0 -
I go to see Shame on Thursday but have heard that Fassbender is a huge talent in it

I chose to see Red Dog tonight and what a beautiful little film it is.
Based on a book, it is the true story of an Australian Red Dog and stars yet another talented Pooch.
Most people seemed to love this film too and you could tell that many were emotionally affected by it. More tissues needed tonight.
This is a true family film that all the family can enjoy.0 -
went to see shame tonight, have to say i watched about 30mins of it if that, then me and hubby left, other than being very sexual with no story line there was not much going on, watching someone peeing was not what i wanted to see or other solo things he was doing for no reason at all, was bored after 30 mins was like a really bad !!!!!! and nothing else0

Saw the 'The Artist' tonight and I really, really enjoyed it. I mostly had a smile on my face and I felt stress free. A few weeks ago I went to a screening and saw the trailer which sold it to me immediately so credits go out to the trailer makers. I knew it would be a black and white silent movie from the trailer. I wanted to clap after it finished and I thought to myself I want to see this film badly, so I did thanks to the person who posted it on here. Thanks we appreciate that.
I enjoyed the storyline and it wasn't a cliche one, for example, with the main man helping the young girl in becoming a star and having an affair at the same time. In fact it was sort of like the opposite, which is a change for once. The Artist was an original film and I always like original films. I knew I wouldn't get disappointed and the cinema was about 98% full. There were three seats next to me yet filled. The cinema I went to was Islington Vue and it was a very nice cinema with loads of leg room so that was a bonus and a good all round experience. I truly recommend this film to anyone and I would pay to see this again. Hey I may even take a date with me this time. Well done producers for this film, I hope it wins more awards.0 -

I disagree. I thought the film had real artistic merit - the breakdown of the relationship between the two main characters, and Carey Mulligan's destructive lifestyle really highlighted the acting skills of both leads. You missed a fantastic last 30 mins too. The sexual stuff was just a side-issue for the main themes of the film.0 -
Hmmmm... should I really take my parents to see The Shame?!0

Ben, i went to see Shame last night with my boyfriend. We both thought it was terrible, soft !!!!!! with a strong lack of storyline. I know it's supposed to show a breakdown of lives but i thought it was pointless. I wish i had chosen Red Dog but the cinema was further away. I suppose it depends on what your parents are like and whether they get embarassed easy?0

There was a story - if not a story line, but although this was a good film, it misses out on being a great film.
After having watched the film I checked out some of the reviews last night..... lots give it 9 and 10 stars would you believe, and they raved about the " masterful character study "
I think both leading actors were excellent, and I think parts of the film were spellbinding (Watch out for the scene when Cissie is singing.....absolutely mesmerising) but the film left too many questions unanswered, and also I am really not bothered about what happens to him after we leave him.
I will not go into detail for those who haven't seen it yet (are there any more previews for this?)
But I think a much more interesting story line will be to fast forward to the time in Brandons life when he is not able to juggle all the differing balls in the air. Here he is on the verge of everything coming tumbling down (job, sister, personal health and safety, ability to be able to attract/afford bed partners). What would have been much more absorbing would be to have been a voyeur at the actual tipping point
I watched the entire film, in part shocked, fascinated, appalled etc.... but rather distracted by a bunch of guys who were giggling and muttering through much of the film, and as soon as they walked out the doors burst into raucous laughter....
So however Art-house this film was intended to be, the graphic sexual contents means it will definitely end up being a source of sexual gratification for a large % of the audience, and any deeper storyline will be completely lost on them.
As for should you take your parents?.... well, everything depends on your parents.
They may think it pretty tame;)
I'm glad I went on my own tbh,0
