    Your not really missing much.

A guy going around getting his rocks off by several methods and grumbling with his sis.

They have missed out before (how things came about) and after (what happened to various aspects) so I feel it ended too early and therefore incomplete.
  • Yes, Shame is vacuous and pretentious and a major disappointment. There is no depth to any of the characters and minimal story. They are also in the main quite unlikeable and selfish and self-absorbed and so I never really cared about what happened to them. Fassbender and Mulligan are ok, but it's far from his best work.

It all becomes dull and repetitive very quickly, and while the sex clearly isn't supposed to be titillating, it isn't even shocking - when we've had numerous films in recent years with penetration and ejaculation, I'm perplexed about all the controversy surrounding it...the marketing machine at work I think. Kevin Spacey was masturbating in the shower 12 years ago...

It's beautifully shot of course, as you'd expect for McQueen, but it's all quite cold and soulless. The soundtrack is beautiful too, but overall it's hard to believe this is from the same man who brought us Hunger -now that really is a work of art.

Not as annoying as posting inane drivel on the codes only thread...

    :T
I do apologise for my inane drivel. I thought that I was on this discussion thread when I did it and I am so sorry.

Such lovely people one meets on these boards ...:( I feel quite at home with all these courteous people. No wonder some people never post again after being hanged, drawn and quartered so readily!

Thanks Ben. Don't worry, I am made of tough stuff.
I am not perfect, who is? I just worry that new people get put off by these "tyrants" who ARE so perfect.

Anyway, I am sorry you did not enjoy "The Artist". I thought it was such a refreshing piece of cinema and I can see why it has been nominated for 6 Golden Globes.

Soooo fed up :(. Had to return tickets for War Horse first thing this morning as we woke up to 2/3 inches of snow . Roads blocked and no sign of a gritter/plough . It's now 11.30, the sun is out and the snow is just beginning to thaw! Will probably be totally clear by the time the film is due to finish :(

Oh sorry, forgot - good morning everyone
    :hello:

    What a viewing week.
The Artist on Monday, Shame on Tuesday and Red Dog today.
I have no idea what a 'typical' Australian film is..... but cannot imagine this gentle film having been made anywhere else.
don't think there was a dry eye in the house 5 minutes from the end.

MI4, Mother and Child plus Margin Call still to look forward to.

We also had snow overnight (amazing how it suddenly makes you feel Christmassy!) but most gone by the time we emerged.
Well worth the effort and setting off a little earlier to ensure we got there in plenty of time.
Once you get outside it really is a lovely day, Crispy but bright sunshine here.
