Hope you are feeling better and that life is looking up for you. Just remember what ever problems you face there is bound to be someone on this site who has been there and got wardrobes full of T !!!!!!.
Now go off and enjoy the rest of your life.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

That would be me. My husband and I moved across the world to a strange country and he left two days after we arrived. Yes, we had been having lots of problems, but moving was supposed to be our chance for a brand new start. I have no family and I didn't know anybody in the country, so it was very very difficult. That was five months ago. I not only survived but I'm doing better than when he was around. So there's hope and things do get better. The broken-heart part takes longer but you just go on one day at a time.

Hi LMT, I am so sorry to hear that the stress overwhelmed you leading to a stay in hospital. Please make sure this is recorded at your workplace, because it seems to me that your manager added to your stress by not agreeing time off for a hospital appointment, even though you had emphasised how important the appointment was. Employers have a duty of care to ensure they don't compromise your wellbeing, and that was clearly not followed in this case by the managers behaviour. I hope you are starting to feel better, and that your move went smoothly, and that your lovely family are giving you lots of TLC. Hope to hear from you soon. xx
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

  • have you thougnt about getting a moped or a motorbike for traveling to work - dead cheap to run and insure and you can pick them up for a few hundred pounds much cheaper than a car with car insurance going up and up it just might be a cheaper and easier option for a while
best of luck though - personally i would have gone and trashed his car with acid and slashed his tires and shoved a banna up the exhaust pipe and sent him porno magazines to his parents address :D but im sure your more restrained than me :rotfl:
I wouldn't have mit this far f it wasn't for my wonderful family and the fantastic support help and advice from all of the wonderful people on here. Thank you all so much for helping me through one of the most difficult times of my life. I know it's not over yet, and I am still climbing up the hill, but the top is getting closer and closer. I will keep
    Posting as my journey progresses.

Next step is to try and buy a car and learn to drive, pay off my debts and start to live. The car will be a godsend cos it will make life so much easier, and stick 2 fingers up to anyone who thought I couldn't survive on my own, so ha ha ha, I'm doing it (and hawaaii may still be possible) xx
  • Hi guys

Well, things had started to look better, then got worse.

I moved out on Friday, but as I was moving I got rushed into hospital with something almost fatal. Most of the stuff had been done, and the flat was ad clean as possible.

My dad contacted the estate agent and told them what had happened, so there was 1 thing that was not back in the flat, but they said they would just keep hold of my bond and let my dad go in the flat to finish off bits a pieces.

So my dad went this morning and could not get access to the property, so he went to the EA an they said they are not going to give me my bond back because there is marks on the kitchen wall (they were there when I moved in) and the living room carpet needs to be cleaned.

So they are going to take the full £425 bond for the sake of £40 to get the carpet cleaned and a mark on the kitchen wall?

Can they do this and where do I go from here?

I really dont need all of this on top of lying in a hospital bed!! xx

You poor thing - jsut what you need.

Post your query on the Housing - renting and selling forum - they are the experts!

From memory they will want to know:

    When did your tenancy start?
Is your deposit protected and in which scheme?
Did you sign an inventory at the beginning of your tenancy?

Deductions for 'wear and tear' cannot be made. If you have proof that the marks on the wall were there when you moved in (listed on the inventory - photos you took?)then you cannot be charged for them. Carpet - ditto.

If you didn't sign an inventory then it will be almost impossible for them to prove it's your responsibility.

Any disputes should be sorted out through your deposit protection scheme.

In any case, they can only deduct for the costs of what needs doing - not take the whole deposit and you can ask for proof of costs through receipts etc.

This is all from memory so do post on the other forum. Plus the Shelter website is excellent.

Don't stress - most of these things get sorted when the EA/landlord realise you know your rights.

Sending you all the best for a speedy recovery.
  • Hi LitleMissT - sorry to hear you are ill right now on top of everything else.
With respect to the scratches - are they in the inventory - if not then you may have to pay for them unless they will accept them as fair wear and tear.
With respect to the carpets - check your tenancy agreement as it may state that you are expected to get the carpets cleaned professionally and present a receipt as proof that they have been done - I have been stung by both these things before and it is a complete pain - hopefully the people on the housing board can help.
Even if you do have to pay for these things- you are definitely not being charged a fair amount.
Hope things improve for you soon.
