How many of you can honestly say that when your child is in hospital, you're giving them the same amount of care that you say you give them on the DLA form?

For my youngest (who is the one who receives DLA), I give more as he is usually very very unsettled and unable to cope, more so than when he is at home.

For middle one (who doesn't receive DLA anyway), I give less as he can cope a lot better.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Asked and answered by others.

I can add that I've worked with many families who could say the same: they end up having to give much more care because of the errors/lack of expertise in hospitals. I wish it were not the case - but the rose tinted ideas people have about hospitals and nurses are long since dead.

I would have to disagree - given that many ill children (yes, I know what I'm talking about - having been in hospital a few times) won't be doing half of the things that are mentioned on the DLA - or can anyone really tell me that their child would need help with mobility? or help with getting dressed?

The childs' care is already being given.

After reading much of this thread I'm just curious - with the stopping of DLA and say that they don't need the care component of DLA while in hospital, what if they are receiving DLA High rate Mobility and have a car through motability, what happens with the payments for the lease of the car?

Would they have to find payments for the payment of motability when DLA payments stop, on top of having to go back and forth to the hospital (the car which would in fact be for the benefit of the DLA recipient) to see their child or family member?

    Just wondering.

If on high DLA mobility and have a car through motability the payments continue BUT if not using motability they stop.

I just dont get the difference between children and adults!
Why would the carer of an adult be not affected after the age of 16 but not under.
How come costs are so different with different rules.

With my recent admission I had to pay to get a cab to get to hospital and back as no friends were available. Still had to pay for my carer / support worker as they were still free to work for me. (They did my cleaning in reality as I wasn't there) and a few extra costs. Now I dont begrudge these costs but it really doesnt follow that they dont occur after 4 weeks if an adult but 12 if a child.

People, please stop feeding the nasty little Trolls on this thread. As soon as you type the letters DLA, CA etc they appear like flies round s**t. When they ask for more information before they can give you the benefit of there negative opinions and nasty comments, please don't oblige them. Don't encourage the nasty little blighters and they may find a different bridge to lurk under.

I just feel so sorry for all the people who post on here looking for genuine help and support, and getting preyed on by people who have nothing nice or helpful to impart.

Now you nasty, begrudging, harpies here is an old but true saying. What goes around, comes around.

From this little witch I would like to add. SO MOTE IT BE!!

You're being very childish. Because some people don't agree with OP and have pointed out what DLA is actually for. You think they are trolls. Hilarious :rotfl:

Many of the people who have posted views with which you disagree are themselves disabled and/or carers. Perhaps you believe that everybody in these categories must automatically think alike?

I am disabled. I don't think that I should be paid DLA whilst I'm in hospital - some of the care I won't need because it would be provided. I wouldn't have mobility needs because it's very unlikely that I would be going out anyway. Why should I get care from the hospital and money from taxpayers for this care?
