Last week I ordered my Quidco/vistaprint business cards, I have also decided to order professional fliers to put out rather than losing my brochures as bought in bulk it is economical. I did all this, only to find my local primary school has decided to do Avon and not only are they advertising to all the parents but have mail dropped my entire area. Strangely they didn;t mail drop me - could this be because they want me to pay £10 to do my Avon at their Xmas Fair do you think??
I was told not to canvass where there are already reps and I have respected this only to find the school ruining things for me. They have Support the School all over it. If I hadn't laid out money on all my advertising etc I would have told Avon where to stick it, I have to say. Surely this is unfair?? What would you do? Any replies much appreciated. Am I being over sensitive?[/QUOTE
You are not being oversensitive at all. Speak to your ASM and tell her to talk to the school and let them know that they can't drop anywhere they like.
I would also go into the school and let them know that they are dropping on your registered streets and that it is not allowed.
I suspect it is not the school as such but the person who is doing it will be someone from the PTA group who is using it for school funds. While this is nice it is not for them to just run roughshod over people trying to earn a living.
I am sure it will get sorted out so don't worry too much about it.
Edit Sorry took so long to type that others answered firstLife is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -
Contact the School and find out who the Rep is that is doing Avon. And tell them that they are supposed to stick to their territory and not blanket drop all areas as this is not fair on exisiting reps who have territory.
Could be whoever is doing it is not aware. And I find it strange they say Support the School. Does that mean all discounts earnt from Avon go back into the school? That is very generous of whoever is doing it then.
I know there is a school on the next road to me and there is a Rep there but think she just does the school and family and friends.0 -
Well, I've only just started so she hadn't allocated territory as yet. And there wasn't anyone within 4 miles doing it, so my SL said to see how I got on and let her know about allocating territory. i don't know how much difference it would make though as they can do it on their premises, and be within their rights to canvass parents and other relatives.
I have emailed SL, saying I don't want to bother her today but can she get back to me tomorrow about it. To make it worse, i think it is me doing it that gave the school the idea
I just don't know what to do, I feel very disheartened. My eldest only just left that school and my youngest will be going there
Edit ** Thanks for all the replies. Some of you posted whilst i was typing. I have only heard about the flier as oddly my house was missed out... take from that what you will... I will contact the school as well. good advice, thanks. the lady told me it said 'we are now an Avon School' on the flier.Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???0 -
missminx, don't let it get you down.
I have had 2 reps on my territory that has been allocated to me, brand new reps, throwing books everywhere! One joined through seeing my brochure on her road, but didn't bother to tell the SL who signed up!
I'm still here going strong!
if they have blanket dropped, they haven't necessarily been given territory. Ask your SL for territory and if this happens to fall within the blanket area the school rep has dropped in, contact them and tell them nicely, this is your territory and they are not to do it again.
Yes, they can canvass parents at the school gates and family and friends they know, but so can you.
Get your books out to family, friends, hairdressers, anywhere you go, take a book with you, tell people you do it, canvass, canvass, canvass. What school is your eldest going to? canvass the parents there.0 -

i know there are some people on here who walk a ways to get to their territory. you may just end up having to do that, if the rep from the school has taken the territory near you (officially). they may not have meant it badly. if they have an ASM who looked at a territory allocation paper or something, they might have seen that the territory near you was not allocated, and if the person from the school mentioned it to them, they would have said you are just f&f. yes it's annoying to have such a big avenue for sales (school) cut off and to have to go out of your way for territory. you might talk to the avon rep from the school and see where exactly their territory IS. if it's only a couple streets, then that's not too bad. i'm sorry about your situation.0 -

Excellent advice, thanks Aureol. I will email her now requesting territory and see what I can do. I don't mind healthy competition, but saying it is for the school makes it awkward as people feel they should iykwim. As well as the simplicity of sending orders into school
Maybe I am making too much of it, but I am investing so much in it and hoped to make it a full time thing. I am annoyed that the school have done this in a rural community, and knowing it is my income and that they are targeting the same people.Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???0 -

The problem is we are very rural, and I have to catch buses with the baby to cover the area as it is. I can't travel much further as it would be pointless costs wise etc. If I was in town it would be a good idea. Thanks for trying to help. Much appreciated.Still looking for the plot...... missminx
they may only do it until Christmas and give up. I wonder if they have thought of the practicalities of it?
They get orders going into the school, where is the delivery going to be sent to? School or parents house. They have to sort out and bag up orders, how they going to get to customers? individual delivery? or ask them to collect from school at end of school day?
Along comes a great rep with great offers, a loyalty plan, a free gift for conditional spend, delivers to your door directly, at a more convenient time to you, not after school only, will accept returns no problem, and give you a full refund.
Have the school thought about refunds? What if someone doesn't like their products and wants to return them? How they going to pay the money back to them if already paid into school?
Don't worry missminxYou will be here in a year's time, telling us how wonderfully you are doing!

Mine is on the previous page to attach to expired brochures - that way it gives people a chance to see that avon is more than just make-up and get an idea on prices too. Tried and tested, got a lady to drop a book to later who contacted me from an expired brochure drop:
Thank you, I have my campaign 17 books so will do that with them next week and see what happens.0
