I've had the window open even upto today every night.

Bought a nice big winter duvet and blanket for the fiancee but I'm still sleeping under a sheet upto last but one night ago when the temperate dropped enough that I scrambled under! Window was still open though...

  • Nope still not got it on yet ,but the Arimidex tablets I take daily give me huge hot flushes almost every hour:eek: , so my electric fans are on more often than not to cool me down, some benefits I suppose as my heating bills will be lower:D
  • We are managing with gas fire and electric blanket I hang my bath towels on line to dry (weather permitting) but it must be a problem if you have a family with lots of towels in use. That is the one thing I do miss, having rad on in bathroom but I refuse to heat up the whole house just yet. My power supplier put up our monthly dd from £71 to £77 even though we are always in credit so I have switched supplier and our new rate is under £60 so I am careful what I use. Cut down on drier use as well but still using dishwasher every other day.
  • Well it was definitely chilly in East Sussex last night - clear skies, beautiful moon and a frost this morning

Still haven't put the heating on and still don't feel cold, though. I really think that 18 months without a boiler has "toughened me up" ;)

The only thing that would have me put the heating on is a very cold morning, when I have to be up and showered at 5am. So I might have to relent and put the heating on for an hour and a bit from around 4.15-5.30am. Other than that, I don't yet feel the need for any heating. I can light the fire in the living room in the evening, but I'm happy enough in two lightweight fleeces and socks :)

I'm lucky - in some respects - as I have an "always on AGA" which produces some background heat but, more importantly, it's where I dry my laundry.

  • No heating here yet.It was realy cold last night. We've taken to sitting with our throws and putting on an extra layer. So far that's been ok.
I keep telling my OH that it's all a matter of attitude, that's ok with him at the moment but I wonder how long I can keep convincing him it's true.

Still no CH yet, but last night we had the stove on, and also a woolen throw wrapped around us (one each me and DD) as it was cold.

The days are so mild that we hope to make our 1st Nov target without too much sacrifice. The only trouble I have is that my office, where I work from home, is North facing and never gets any sun so it is quite cold, and I have to keep warming my hands around mugs of tea to be able to type (nothing like an excuse to stop and make tea ;) ).

I've put the heating on the '1 hour boost' a few times in the last 2 weeks. Still haven't put it on timer yet so not too bad...!

I have been putting a fan heater on in my bedroom first thing when I get ready for work, though.

Can someone tell me - would it be cheaper to run a small fan heater for 15 minutes in one bedroom or turn the central heating on for half an hour - which would obviously do the whole house?? I would have thought the small heater was cheaper but, they do use a LOT of electricity!

Still holding out here but it is blimming cold again today - I'm sat here in my coat, with the hood up.

A hat/hood works wonders btw! Really helps and I'd recommend anyone try it before putting the heating on (well, if you want to hold out as long as possible that is).

Will be November before we know it and then we'll have to decide whether to aim for December...!

I used to have an old aunt who always wore a hat in the house in the winter. It came in very handy if she had to open the door to unwelcome callers too - as she used to tell them she was just on her way out! :D

I keep my heating on all the time, but then the energy used to completely heat up a cast iron (at least I think it is) cooker/boiler is probably the same as it being on low constantly. Also I'm at home most of the day with smallest child and always using it to cook, dry things etc.

And I thought Guernsey was bound to be warmer - I'm not moving there then! ;)
