  • No heating here for us either,me and dear old hubby just came in from daughters and had some tea and crumpets, ended up dancing round the kitchen to the Rolling Stones(don't ask)only stopped because we noticed our neighbour looking on in amusement at us two nearly 60 year olds having a laugh. We're too warm now so we're going to settle down and watch TV with fleeces to the ready.Truth is I'm shattered now and will end up falling asleep as soon as I it sit snuggled under my blanket.
Don't care what happens though I'm not putting my heating on until I'm desperate.

  • Last night I went to sleep with pjs socks and my fleece baby suit on, and two hot water bottles :o

When the heating kicked in this morning I woke up cooking :D

Err.... The point is that we're trying to go without heating :o :rotfl:

We are still heat free here (eg no heat at all) but I'm amazed that those in North Scotland are still doing so as well  You must be well hardy ;)

  • So it may be best to just stay cold then :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

people who have their ch heating on at all, even for half an hour are using heating. Who are they kidding?

we have no heating on at all and I also include a fire of any sort. It is comfortable and lol my gas use for a whole week is 33kwh which compares with 562 for an average gas user at the moment

You cannot compare N with S and E with W and new houses with old houses and draughts. There are some good stoic folk on the thread. well done as it can`t be easy

I wanted to start this thread as the other heating thread has a lot of people who are using central heating for part of the day and/or other forms of heating. Please use the thread and then drop off if you succumb

This thread is to see and perhaps help, those who genuinely have no heating on at all

We haven`t any heating, not even a small fire or stove and are pretty comfortable as the sun helps warm the house and in the evenings we shut the door and snuggle with fleece throws.

ps: many people out there cannot afford heating this year and this thread is about building some comradeship and genuine support

    Whew - you're brave Kittie!

Well - this clarifies then. I'm the same as a lot of others - by "heating" I mean "central heating". So this clarifies - on this yur thread it be no central heating and no fires either - whew!

Please dont go freezing your !!! off. I read the comment from a poster on the other thread about 18-21C being regarded as the indoor temperature in Britain. I seem to have acclimatised a bit - but have now got a thermometer in the sitting room - so I can tell exactly what temperature the house is. I've discovered from that I can usually manage (with plenty of clothes on) down to 18C. Beneath 18C is put some heat on territory. I am wondering what the minimum temperature is from a a health and safety viewpoint - as opposed to whether one feels warm viewpoint. I would think - for a basically fit person - the temperature probably shouldnt drop beneath 16C. I would imagine if one is ill and/or old then it would need to be at least the 18C. Wondering if anyone knows what the position is on this?

Wondering also how the court case is going of Friends of the Earth and Age Concern v. the Government on fuel poverty?

It is indeed a concern that some people cant afford to use their heating even when they need to - and I have been noting comments from a couple of posters on another thread that they are having to contend with an employer cutting wages (ie as well as the Price Rises) - so they are having a "double whammy".

When I last worked in a workplace (I've worked from home for ages now), health and safety rules had an upper limit of 100 degrees F, but didn't mention a lower limit

No heating on here as yet, my switch on time is when the indoor temp in my living room is constanly below 16C.
As I am usually out at work all day and do not sit around much of an evening it is not usually a problem, I just put a jersey on and tough it out until bed time.
The weekends are different as I am usually in all day and sometimes it can be a long day if the temp drops, this coming week I am off work and the forecast is for a colder spell so I might have to relent and throw the switch.
