Is your heating ON or OFF?

No heating at all here, either:)
We have GCH, but it hasn't been turned on as yet - I'm planning on getting to November 1st at least. I have a disabled child and I have an oil filled heater for his room, but the room has been bubble-wrapped, double curtained and newspapered under the floorboards so still feels quite comfortable without the heater on at the moment. His room will be the first to be heated, the rest of the house I will hold off as long as possible. My kids think it is such fun to wrap up under their sleeping bags and fleeces in the evening- they call it 'indoor camping' and find it all rather exciting!
I also prefer to sleep in a cold room, I really hate CH on at night and I hate the way CH makes me feel - I get very dry skin and excema as soon as it gets turned on, as do 3 of the children. I'd much rather keep the heating off for as long as possible.0 -
I'm cold  so thought I'd pop by and say hi
I have central heating - the boiler has been serviced and the radiators bled but it still won't work upstairs. In the kitchen I find that I'm moving about and cooking so I don't get cold anyway and in the living room we've all got blankets, wear dressing gowns/jumpers, put on extra socks and have a hot water bottle. The living room does have a radiator and a very old gas fire but I can't see the point in putting either on when the heat get sucked straight back out through a silly vent (am going to block it up) but I don't want to waste money just on heating a living room anway.
At the moment I can't afford to spend any money fixing the upstairs radiators. I have asked work if I can job share... but they need to find someone to fill the other half of my role. They haven't advertised but if they find someone I will have a wage cut and then be entitled to a grant to help with my ch and the moment I earn about £900 pa gross to much to be able to receive any help.
We warm the bed up with the hot water bottles while cleaning teeth and wear socks and dressing gowns to bed.
NEVER EVER EVER use a gas fire without a vent in the room else you may just find you kill someone - like you family through carbon monoxide poisoning.
And the sad thing is you wont even notice its happening.
Sorry if that sounds dramatic - but it has to be, too many people die every year from blocking air vents and using fossil fuels0 -
We live in the Northern Isles, there has been rain (even hail  ), a deathly cold northerly wind recently, and very little sun. It IS cold and we have had the heating on now for about 2 weeks. TBH I always wear layers, fleecey jammies, a vest etc, DS (16 months) also now wearing layers (incl tights and he is a boy!). I think its great for those of you who don't need heating on but remember some parts of the UK are a lot colder than others! I am energy conscious but it really is a necessity up here. If anyone is interested we only use 2 storage heaters (one in lounge and one in hallway), not the rest, and have not used the upstairs heaters and only had the leccie blanket on when my back was very bad (heat helps- alhough I am trying to use my oat bag now instead). I only wish we could dry our washing on the line, instead it sits on airers by the heaters!
This said I love where I live, its just a bit nippy.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I'm in the north of Scotland. My husband has been home for longer than usual and he'll only set the heating to come on for an hour in the morning, and 2 in the evening, and i'm freezing! When he goes away it'll be on a lot more!
Today is a miserable day and I have loads of laundry to dry. He put my dryer in the garage so I can't even benefit from putting that on.
He works in Russia and is used to the cold. If it's winter and he's outside for 10 minutes, the hair inside his nose freezes. But i'm a wuss and not used to it being quite so cold.0 -
Just opened curtains and looked outside sure is miserable out there
We put our drier up loft a few years back so i wouldnt use it. lol0 -
I've used ours for about an hour in total since we moved house almost 4 months ago. He's cruel I tell you.0

I've had no heating of any sort on yet and I am still holding out for the 1st November,or even later if I can.
The little room my PC is in is currently 15c,which according to the thermometer is in the danger zone  but I am quite warm enough,in fact I have just taken off a fleece because I was feeling too warm :rotfl: It is a lovely sunny day here today.
There is only me here so I don't have to worry about anyone else moaning that they are cold.If it goes chilly in the evenings, then I put on my pj's and a warm dressing gown and wrap myself in a fleecy blanket while watching TV.I don't consider this a hardship and I just think about the money I am saving on gas bills :j0 -
I got a temperature guide our local council were issuing to older people. Its made of the stuff like those thermometers you stick on your forehead and change colour. On there it says-
9 - 12 deg c cold danger of hypothermia-turn up the heat immediately
15 deg cool- turn up the heat
18-21 deg warm - correct temp
24-27 deg hot - reduce heat but stay warm
Hope that helps someone.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0
