Is your heating ON or OFF?

I have put NO heating on at all yet. No gas, no electric. I've been making do with fleecy stuff on me and hot drinks - which I like anyway. Besides, it's been quite mild here in London except for a few days a couple of weeks ago. Today it was sunny and warm, and I went out and about in short sleeves.
I'm definitely holding out as much as possible, and have dug out my fingerless gloves just in case.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Optimum temperature is supposed to be between 18 and 21 higher than that and you are more susceptible to colds etc.
Try turning it down a degree a week but involve them too and by taking meter readings and highlighting the savings. I would take a meter reading on a daily or even weekly basis and calculate the cost. Then start reducing by degree at a time.
The price jump compared to last winter will be significant. Something like 40% more. If your on all electric heating and cooking it will be even more painful.
Whats your insulation like by the way?

I may be wrong but I think this is probably one area where there is a definate north/south divide. Up here in the north east, blanket, fleece, hot dring/water bottle = still freezing. At that point I put the heating on (I know for certain two things will happen I will put on at least 7lb and I will need more pain meds neither good).
No one will put a thermostat in for me though - I live in a two bed terrace and I can't get either warm front or a private gas fitter to put one in. They all say the house is too small!!! I think it's bonkers as the heating HAS to go on in 15 min intervals (how my timer works) and it gets so hot all the blankets come off then it cools down and all the blankets go back on - madness.0 -
We only had to have ours on for 2 nights last week and it seems to have got quite warm again up here so heating off again for now.It was a gorgeous sunny day today so the house is toasty, infact I had to open windows for a little while as it was too hot inside.Better enjoy it while I can."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0

I'm just refusing to put the heating on for as long as possible because I know that although even on the colder days I'm just wrapping up warm and adjusting like I did before we had central heating, once I put it on I'll be reluctant to do without it again. To be honest I need to keep all the credit I'm building up on my account for when the winter realy sets in.Living right on the NE coast we're pretty hardy anyway and at least I've got the satisfaction of knowing I'm not giving those greedy power companies all my money. There's just no way I can shell out the amount of cash it would cost to put my heating on like I would usually do other years. So it's another layer and my fleecy throw of an evening. It's not going to kill me and it's not like I've not had to do it before,0

Our heating is now on but only cos we have a week old baby at home
Then its only 1 and 1/2 hrs morning and same in the evening. We are getting a quote tomorrow to have a thermostat fitted cos then it will be better still controlled by that rather than just the timer.
we have had a couple of open fires as we have proper fireplaces, but now its got a bit warmer again - but for how long;)??Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

No heating on for me yet - that is CH. I put the halogen heater on in my bedroom for about 5 minutes while I dried off after having a bath. Other than that nothing. Quite mild here though at the moment.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

No heating on here! We are going to have a coal fire this winter - not had one for years. We thought it might be cosy?If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Definitely a north/south divide thing, but then in the North East we usually get our weather direct from Siberia. DD moved to Glasgow and swears it is warmer up there! Yet there will will still be shirt sleeves and strappy dresses in the Bigg Market. Winter drawers on? - I think not :rotfl:.
I'd try ringing round a few more local heating engineers - this situation can't be right for you. My sympathies over the pain meds - mine have already gone up to winter dosage, hoping the sun has a bit of autumn heat in it today. Some people hear voices, some see invisible people.
