Is your heating ON or OFF?

Well I put my heating on very low last week, we have a Stanley and I've heard him fire up for a thirty seconds or so maybe 3 times a day. I think I might turn him off, although he's doing a good job of drying the clothes I'm hanging over him overnight!Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

We put the kingsize summer duvet under the bottom sheet and are now using the kingsize winter duvet on top and the bed is SO nice and toasty now.
The gas heating is still switched off.

No heating here yet either. It was a beautiful sunny day yesterday but it did get chilly later,we just sat with our fleecy throws on the sofa.(don't you just wish you had shares in fleecy fabrics,we'd all be worth a fortune right now)
It's another lovely day and no way is our heating going on at all this week regardless.0 -
So far so good with us. OH is up for the challenge so has kept me on track when i've had a waiver!
Certain rooms tend to get warm from appliances - e.g. study gets warm from the computer + kitchen gets warm from cooking, so we keep the doors closed and the heat in and if it is really cold I just spend more time in those rooms!
Have noticed i'm getting a lot more done in the evenings as sitting still watching telly gets a bit chilly but if you are up and about doing stuff and moving around then you don't notice the cold.
Have been taking a hot water bottle to bed and have both the summer and winter duvets on which is very toasty indeed!
Our house has really big windows most of which are south facing so we make sure we open the curtains first thing and close them as soon as it starts getting dark so we make the most of the free sunlight heating!0 -
I popped the heating on for an hour the other night to check the boiler and the radiators were working fine. Thankfully they are. Last year I didn't do an early check and when I really needed the heating I found that the boiler wouldn't work
I then had to wait nearly 6 weeks through the coldest part of the year here before the new part arrived and it was fixed. Hence the early check this year. Mind you I now have a wood burning cooker and a (still waiting to be installed) wood burner for the lounge just in case the CH fails.Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

Definatly getting colder in the evenings but still determined to wait out till Nov 1 DH moaned he was cold the other night but was sitting in a Tshirt so told him to put a jumper on first! Had few complaints from DD but managed to stall her so far, one thing we are all doing some evenings is going on the Wii Fit which you come off sweating the last thing you think about is heating! lolFrugal challenge 2025

Still no full on central heating but have put an oil filled rad on in kids room for 15 mins before story and bed!!!
Have also been cheating slightly by lighting wood burner in the evenings which does help to take the chill off the rest of the house too!!!0 -
I'm disabled with mobility problems, but so far we're holding out. My thermostat is set at 13C during the day and 5C at night. It hasn't gone below 14.5C yet. We wrap up warmly - we'll be fine. Mind you it's not really a matter of choice for us we live on benefits and just can't afford to have it on.
Cheers

Had the heating on low (15) last night for a couple of hours to dry an unusually large load of laundry due to visitors, other than that it's staying off until the end of the month. Like others I have a lightweight duvet under my bottom sheet, throws on the sofas I can pull over me if I need to, plus a hottie, thick bedsock/slippers, and 2 cats and a dog to keep me warm

Depressing news re the cost of living for pensioners at present which makes me all the more determined to keep active and use body heat rather than the ch yet.0 -
Still not put on the central heating yet, although must admit I was tempted when the temperature was 14.5 degrees in the living room. Instead we lit the wood burner and got the temp up to 18 degrees which was more comfortable.
Now have the "winter" duvet on and I have a patchwork quilt/bedspread on top if needed.
Never thought about using the "summer" quilt under the bottom sheet. Does it really make much difference?
I have just ordered an Alapaca poncho from Ebay as I thought that would be more practical than walking around with a blanket on!
Will let you know how I get on with it.
It's only me at home during the day so seems wasteful to put on the heating just for me.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.
